What should consumers do?
Consumers will be contacted directly by Triumph Australia and will receive a replacement ECM.

What do you think that will do for those with Tuneboys, Power Commanders etc....?????

Shouldn't be a problem with PC as the ECM tune isn't changed. Let's hope they are not the new anti tamper ones.

What are the defects?
......, which in turn causes the engine to lose power.
What are the hazards?
This defect results in loss of driving force and momentum.

They must use these as standard on HD's

So the consumer will receive and fit their new ECM which I presume will be the same as the 2014 models and not TuneECU friendly, will we get a choice of map to suit our aftermarket accessories ?

Has anyone here heard of ECM problems in Oz?

Is todays the date 1st April ? WTF

Well my dealer (AJ's) has not heard of the recall and when he did a search on my VIN it did not flag it is recalled, sounds like red herring to me.

If you look @ the LH column, motorcycles, Triumph, 2014, it only applies to the Tiger Explorer & the Trophy.

My dealer advised that the recall was for certain VIN's from 2012 onwards for the Triumph Thunderbird.

Fortunately mine is a January 2011 model. I hope fortunately!!! . . .

Cheers Alex

My dealer sent me this extract from the recall page....

A limited number of Triumph Tiger Explorer and Trophy model motorcycles require replacement of their Engine Control Module (ECM) due to electrical interference from the throttle position sensor. On rare occasions this may cause the engine ECM to enter a shutdown strategy which in turn cause the engine to lose power, resulting in a loss of driving force and momentum.

No mention of Birds...

Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.

I chatted to the dealer yesterday and today, and he said he hasnt heard of any recalls.
My bike is running like a dream, and I dont want 'em mucking around with it unless needed. and as Leethal said they may put in the new anti-tamper ones
I dont want that to happen, and if it is getting replaced I will try to get them to fit a 'tamper type' if available

Hmmm.....just a longshot theory, but what if because Australia is the one country that has shops doing major performance mods like cams, triumph put out a BS bulletin in order to stuff these bikes with the new locked ECU under the guise of a design issue? I mean, all those models? And Aus only? Very suspicious.

I just read in the latest editition of Motorcycle Trader Magazine { yes, I know. ... I still buy bike magazines, and love 'em } that the Aussie recall is for 125 bikes manufactured since May this year only. it includes Tiger 800 models, Thruxton, Bonneville,, Rocket and Thunderbird.
Its a worldwide re call, but again only bikes made after May 2014.
No wonder my dealer didnt have a clue what I was talking about I dont think he has sold any bikes since then

Love ya all
