Coming home from the AR rally I wrecked my bird trying to avoid a Camaro. Remember my rant about the 24k service and the dealer keeping the bike for 3 1/2 weeks? Well they had it ready for me a 9am the day of the rally so i took my stuff to the shop and left from there. Coming back I laid the bike down. I spent 6 hours in the ER and have a broken left femur near my collarbone. I have to get surgery this Wednesday to screw it back together. The bike was running but it is still in AR. Hoping to go get it tomorrow. The tank is smashed on one side headlight housing is crunched, shift lever bent. I hope they don't total it because I couldn't replace it with what they would give me. This kinda sounds like a Woody repeat. I'll probably not be able to ride for a couple of months. Yes it is a bitch typing with my right hand since I am left handed.

Oh my god, thats horrible ! Man, i'm truly sorry to hear that. I know broken femurs all too well. 16 years old, 1st bike a honda 160, right femer broken clean in 2 and laid in a hospital bed in traction for 1.5 months and a cast for another 1.5. I hope you do better, and i'm sure you will some 40+ yrs after my incident. But still a horrible thing to endure. I remember that pain all too well ! Best of luck to you Paul....

Damn!
Something in the water around here? We could just about organize a rally of broken Birders but we'd all be driving cars.....
So sorry to hear this, hopefully it'll be a distant memory soon.

Clavicle? Femur is the big bone between knee and hip. Both? Anyway, get better and back in the saddle ASAP.

BTW: I discovered the Fire Dept. responding to my accident has filed a claim against my insurance "on my behalf" which I'm told is the FD trying to recoup money. watch out, out there.....

Dang PES, not another bird rider down. Hope you heal up before spring. If your bird is totaled there seems to be a lot of good used ones out there so maybe that might be a route to go.

My mistake. The ER report said "Fracture, Humerous, Proximal, Left, Closed, Initial encounter, Motorcycle." So I guess it's the Humerus.

My son and friend went to AR yesterday and retrieved my bike. It was about a 10 hour round trip drive. It's sitting in front of the dealer since they are closed 2 days. I hope it doesn't get stolen too. But who would want a wrecked bike

Translation: Broken upper arm bone, near the shoulder, not protruding through the skin, first break, happened on a motorcycle. Not that that makes one lick of difference to how you feel. Heal up fast, my friend!

Thanks for the support! The shop turned the claim in to State Farm Friday, I missed their call but from my estimate using Bike Bandit since their prices are about what Triumph charges, it's going to be between $3500-4,000. The big thing was the tank that was smashed on one side. They go for $993 for a Pacific Blue/White and another $115 for the fittings. Then front fender, headlight, windshield, shift lever and left turn signal were trashed and left exhaust was scruffed up. If the ins. company totals it, I'm screwed. I won't be able to replace it for $5800 which is the trade in value and what State Farm usually gives you.

Looks like they are not going to total it. Damage is $3,777 including labor and tax. State Farm is sending a check to the dealer at my request so they can get going on it. It'll probably be ready just in time for the first snowfall.

Hey. Glad it's working out for you. But did you remember to submit for protective gear replacement? New gloves, pants, jacket, helmet? That's at least a $1000 worth of stuff. Even if it's only cosmetic damage (ie - a scuffed elbow on a leather jacket), you should submit it.

Yeah Jamie, I tried really hard to look for damage on my gear but the only thing that was damaged was my helmet and they are supposed to reimburse me for travel expenses to collect my bike. SF said they now reimburse up to $3,000 in riding gear. I turned all the receipts in today so hopefully I'll get another$300. If I learned anything from this, it was get, the best riding gear/protection you can. I'm going to replace my 12 year old open face 3/4 helmet with a Nolan N-104 EVO full face modular. Also thinking about getting some of those Kevlar armored jeans.

Went to the Orthopedic surgeon today. The bone is healing fine but 2 weeks of physical therapy until he will release me to drive. The bike will beat me as far as being repaired. Oh well, high temp in 30's and 40's here later this week anyway, thanks to the Polar vortex.

My friend got my bike back from the dealer to my garage yesterday, before our little snow shower hit today. She looks as good as new! I however, will have to take physical therapy 4-8 more weeks.

Well, at least it happened about when the weather started to turn. That broken bone stuff is a real drag. Had a few on bikes when i was a kid, one real bad one. Not fun. Glad to hear the bike is renewed tho.
