Well, I finally did it. I got another bike: a 2014 Bonnie T100 Limited Edition. I've been lusting at other bikes for years to compliment the bird (2010 black 1600). Recently I almost made the jump to the R3 Roadster, which is a brilliant bike, I must say. I didn't feel like the R3R would be that much different from the bird to warrant another bike. Both are fast and fun but not reallly as agile as I'd like. Then my sights were drawn to the BMW R Nine T, which is an unreal bike. Sleek, elegant, nimble, and fast as all get out. I almost pulled the trigger on that one. Ultimately, while I loved the bike for me, it would have been a selfish purchase. All along I wanted to get something that would act as a second bike for me, but also be something my wife could also ride. Since she is pretty much a novice rider, I figured the R9T would be a wee bit too much for her. So we finally decided on the Bonnie T100.

I initially was going to go with the black T100 since it has a nice custom look to it. Then I saw the Limited Edition T100 and it was all over. The LE has brushed aluminum casings and a nice black paint with gold hand painted pinstriping. Also the fenders are a very nice pale blue with black center stripes. There is something about the brushed aluminum of the Thruxton that has always appealed to me so I was psyched to get it on a Bonneville and not have to do them myself. So here it is...

Keep in mind that this is just the starting point of my project. First of all, I'm going to install the Triumph Performance EFI upgrade kit with Dominator Sports silencers. That comes with the airbox and cat elimination kits included and supposedly gives 14 HP at the wheel and similar torque. Very similar to the British Customs package, but it is a bit cheaper, and the guy Carlos at TPUSA is very accessible and helpful and apparently is a wizard with Bonnie mods. Plus, I think the Doms sound a little cooler than the Predators from BC.

As far as the cosmetic mods, I have on order black aluminum front and rear foot pegs, ignition relocator, rear fender eliminator kit from BC with led indicators, front led replacements with bracket, a very cool front sprocket cover made of milled aluminum by Free Spirits, perforated aluminum chain guard from BC, and eventually Thruston style cafe racer bar end mirrors (haven't decided on which ones, yet). I also have my eyes on some cool hi flow side panels I've found, which are very pricey! I think they are from PJ Glassfibre in UK. I think I'd like to eventually go with the front and rear wheel upsize, but that is later, I think. Most of the parts should be trickling in over the next few days so I'll be pretty busy getting this going. I can't wait!

It will be interesting to see the performance increase with the TPUSA kit with silencers. I had planned to pretty quickly go with the TPUSA 904 bore kit which, according to Carlos, takes the HP at the wheel to around 85. That is on par with the bird and in a 450 lb bike! On second thought, though, I'm not sure if my wife can handle a bike with that kind of power. At least not right now. She did well on her first ride around town today, but she has a long ways to go before she can handle that kind of power/weight ratio.

So there it is. A new Triumph in the garage and a smile on my face. The Bonnie really is a lovely bike to ride. Stock it has decent get up and go and handles great. I definitely feel more comfortable through the twisties than on the bird, but the bird kills it in low end torque and is a much more comfortable bike to ride for any time at all, IMO. Plus there is that stance of the T-bird! My wife has officially forbade me from ever selling it. She says she gets a little, uh, excited when she see and hears me pull up on the bike. So it stays. I'll keep you lads up to date on the progress on the Bonnie mods as they happen.

Good choice you,ll have lots of fun on the bonnie their a great bike to ride and give you a totally different ride to the t bird. I also have a all black 2013 t100 for the same reason. I use it as a second bike (daily to and from work) and my girl friend rides it on the weekends .I love how easy it is to ride and throw around in traffic .great little bike

I also have a 2010 1600, and am looking at a T100, with my girlfriend in mind. She has forbid me from ever selling my bird, not that I would. Beautiful bike! I would love to see the transformation.

Actually, visually, the perfect bike.

I doesn't fit me BUT if you asked a child to draw a bike this would be what he would have in mind.

A work of art!

i like them, but havent ridden one yet. am going to take one for a spin shortly at the Triumph day, along with a Thruxton and maybe a daytona 675 just to see what the hype is all about.
I have ridden the kawasaki W 800 which is comparable to the Bonneville in many ways, wasnt such a bad ride either.

Great looking bike, just don't park it with all the big boys. They will all be over to look it over. At least my daughter bought the new Bonneville. Not quite the same, but so much fun to run around town on.
And you got it just in time to get lots of use before winter.
Right on about the Bird, it is so comfortable on long rides. Could never do it on the SE.

Great looking bike and you can't go wrong with a Bonnie. I have the 2006 creamsicle that I will never part with and had a 2007 silver Bonnie that I bought in Japan. I would have brought the '07 back with me if it wasn't such a ridiculous joke to get the certificate of conformity from the EPA to bring back in country so I sold her

I am going the opposite route as I am looking at birds now that I am back here stateside mainly so my wife can two up with me and we enjoy some of this gorgeous countryside. The Bonnie is a fantastic bike and a superb do almost everything bike. She just isn't the greatest in the world with two up but no one is perfect...Bonnie just comes pretty darn close

So things are progressing nicely with the Bonnie mods. So far I have removed the rear fender and installed the removal kit with LED indicators. Much more tidy read end. I've swapped out the original gas cap for a knurled brushed aluminum cap. I've also put in new pegs, chain cover, ignition relocation, and a new brown "slammer" seat from British Customs. I've yet to install the Dominator Sport silencers with cat and airbox eliminator. I also have a new matte black tracker handlebar with matching grab rail on order as well as new vented side panels and sprocket cover. Once things are tidied up, I'll post a pic or two. I can't wait!

Nah. Not a cafe racer. Just a cleaner, tougher, more modern Boonie. That's my vision anyway. I do think the stock Thruxton is a tighter look, but I can't handle the riding position on the Thrux. My back and wrists would stage a revolt. I'd like to be able to ride the bike for more than 15 minutes at a time!

So a quick update on the Bonnie mods. I just put the new TPUSA Dominator Sport silencers on with air box removal with K&N filters and what a difference! The exhaust note is perfect. Louder, definitely , but not too loud. This bike has really opened up with more down low torque and much roll-on power 40-70 mph. I also have the new Sprocket cover and removed the old headlight bracket and replaced them with milled alu bracket which also shows the metal off the forks, which is much prettier, IMO. Also new front indicators on a relocator bracket which have really narrowed down the front profile a lot. In addition, I have a new black Tracker handlebar from Bitlwell, which looks great. It has pulled me forward a little too much so I think I'll add some 1" risers to ease pressure on my back a bit. I initially swapped out the stock mirrors with some Hamilton bar ends, but I thought the bike was way too wide since the tracker bars are 32" so I switched back. I still have yet to recieve the hi flow side panels and also plan on chopping the front fender and paining it black to match the tank. I really like how this bike has come together so far. It has been a blast to do, although I must say that removing the front end to take off the old headlight bracket was a bit of a hassle. So here are the before and after pics.

Thanks Mat! It really has been fun to get this bike the way I want it. Here's the latest addition: new side panels. These have a muscular leading mesh scoop which really adds to the contour of the bike. I wish there were something similar I could do with the side panels of the bird.

Now all I have left to do are new rear Hagon Nitro shocks, front Bitubo fork cartridges, and a bobbed front fender painted black to match the tank. Well, OK, maybe new wider front and rear rims relaced and treated for tubeless tires, powder coated black. And new Dunlop rubber. Should be sweet!

Thats looking nice hoorad. I'm not keen on the brown seat but i like the rest. I like the bonnie with the cast wheels and dunstall looking pipes like the ones you put on, but i don't like the one speedo and no tach. I love your tank too. Some cast wheels and black seat and i'd be all over that. If and when i get to a point where i can no longer afford to ride the Tbird i'll likely get a bonnie since i can do all the work myself and parts/tires are much cheaper. And you have a english bulldog? I love those dogs more than people ! Todd had one that sadly passed recently. makes me very sad.

Todd, isn't the bonnie your daughter's?

I really like Bonnevilles. When I get too old and/or the weight of my TBird becomes too much/annoying and/or the type of riding I do becomes shorter or more urban and/or have a serious need for change for no reason other than I want to, I'll be eyeing a Bonnie to replace it. Maybe the new Honda CB1100, but probably a Bonneville. That retro look w/ modern touches really appeals to me.

In fact, I saw one identical to this at my local dealership this summer and truth be told it made me pause and think, as orange is my favorite color and I really like it on bikes. I didn't follow up on the urge, but someday...who knows. If I had the budget and garage room for two bikes, this one would already be parked right my next to my TBird.

'Course, that said, there is something undeniably and absolutely compelling about the classic English green:

Fortunately (or not), that's a color choice I won't have to make for some time yet.

No, it's the bike I purchased to learn on. Bought it in March of 2009. Took my safety course on it, put a few thousand miles on her and then saw the new Thunderbird. Bought the Tbird in June of 2009 and sold the Bonneville to my BIL. My BIL had two minor spills on the bike, so I bought it back from him, fixed to better than new and now it's my around town bike.

Ok, I'm thinking of someone else then. Is the bonnie engine noisier than the bird? I ask because i had a speedmaster, same engine just different cams, and that thing made the tbird sound quiet as a mouse. It wasn't random noises that come and go like th etbird tho. Just constant noise that was mush worse than the tbird on a bad day. I always think about that when i consider the possibility of going back to a SM or maybe a bonnie when i no longer can handle the maintenance or size of the tbird.

Nice ! Orange is my fav color too, and that bike is sweet ! I always eyeball that model because i much prefer cast wheels and dunstall type pipes it has unlike the T100. But what i DON'T usually like is the single offset speedo they normally have, but i see that orange one has the T100's speedo/tach setup. Is that bike a special edition or something?

When I first got the bird I noticed immediately that it was quieter. But, I had a windscreen on the Bonne and not the bird. With the windscreen I'm not so sure.

You can buy an aftermarket tach for the Bonneville that I think looks better than the double setup. I'm sitting in the Buenos Aires airport right now, but will post a pic when back home

Interesting. I wonder if the one I saw @ my local dealership was a Special Edition or just a standard orange (if there is such a thing) Bonnie. Might have to stop by next weekend and satisfy my curiousity...plus it gives me an excuse to be around dozens of Triumph motorcycles.

I'm sure it's a SE because normally only the T100 comes with separate speedo and tach.
