A few people have asked me about the driving lights I use, so I thought I would give the run down here. I have installed Kuryakyn fork-mounted bullet lights ( Link ) with their LED upgrade option ( Link ). I used the Side Mounted 49mm/43mm option (5015) which are wired into the AUX/fog lighting switch next to the headlight high/low beam switch.

Because the front fork on the T-Bird is 47mm, it is not a perfect fit. I have spacers from the kit on the fork, and the clamp does not clamp down completely:

They are very secure, however, and I like them. They light up the ditches at night and if I run with them on in the day, they make sure I am seen. They also look great with the H-D Daymaker I have installed IMHO. There are a few things to note that I do not like:

They are fork mounted and will interfere with the fork-mounted OEM windshield mounts and other larger windshields that stick out the side of the fork. They are not much cheaper than the OEM driving lights either, although I like the slim look, especially with the LED upgrade. They also are a more pointy bullet then the stock headlamp and blinker housing:

In general I am pretty happy with them and plan to leave them on.

Your setup looks Great Boris. The location would not work for me because of a full windshield benefits me greatly. You could attach them to the engine guard bar if one wanted the OEM windshield. But regardless you have a beautiful setup and well lit machine.

Cheers!

Yeah, the windshield incompatibility is a bummer. What do the driving lights look like from the front? The highway bar clamps are pretty cool. Curious to see how the wires are run and the look generated. Nice tank badges, btw! Pretty tempted to try that too.

The wire harness came complete with the PIAA 005 kit. From the battery to the lights and a single wire ran to the head light housing for the stock auxiliary switch. I used chrome tie wraps holding the light wires along the dresser bars to reach under the tank . Not as clean as your setup but it works for me. Mine also are H3 35 watt bulds no LED. I did a ride last week at night and pretty happy with the light output. Using both PIAA bulds for main and driving.

The PIAA bulbs were high on my list as options prior to paying for LEDs. :) And the metallic zip ties are clever. Your setup makes a really unique bulb pattern which I like. Nice!

Thanks Boris. You still have plenty of options with aftermarket windshields that will work with your setup. Check Fasteddysports.com also search ebay for Triumph Thunderbird 1600 windshields, lots of ideas. I always liked the looks of the Windvest.

Hey Boris
Nice job on your bike. I have 2 questions for you:
1-Love that head light, do you have a link for that ?
2-Looks like you have the national cycle wind screen, the only one that I like. My problem is that I am using OEM windscreen mounting brackets for various reasons, do you think I could still fit it on, with some cleverness? do you like the wind screen?

Thanks~Ray

Hi Boris
Did you buy the universal wiring kit also or just wire it to the Aux switch. Cheers Ray

Sorry for the delayed response. It is well below freezing here in Minnesota, and I packed the bike away for the winter quite awhile ago! :)

The Headlight is a Harley Davidson Daymaker. There are several posts about it on this board. It is a crazy simply mod and provides a great headlight upgrade in function and style. This particular version (teddy bear) also has a parking lamp to take advantage of the wires in the Triumph. The Kuryakyn lights are wired directly into the aux circuit so the handlebar switch does what it is supposed to.

I do use the National Cycle deflector and love it! It takes almost all of the wind off my chest and makes freeways more fun! But it still allows some air movement. As for using the screen with the OEM quick release brackets, I am certain something could be jimmy-rigged or custom fabricated but don't think it would be worth it. It is a very simple screen and the custom mounting would be more effort/cost than I would put into it. Do you use an OEM screen sometimes?

Can't been too visible I say. I have the Kuryakyn crashbar mounted spots as well but decided to mount them down low to try and give the impression of a larger vehicle from the front.
I also changed the standard inserts for the LED ones to suit the LED Kuryakyn Phase 6 headlight and Passing Lights. No one can say they didn't see me again.

hey Boris
Thanks for your reply. I found the day maker lamp on line but the configuration you have appears to be for a 5 3/4 lamp. Is this the one that you have?

Yes, I bought the 5 3/4" lamp in Chrome. There is a blacked out version as well.
