I've only had my T-bird for about 5 weeks, and have put on only 1,500 miles so far and have seen the mpg go from 34 on the first tank full of gas to 38 on the most recent fill-up (U.S. gallons). I assume that the bike is considered fully broken in by 1,500 miles so I guess this is about the mpg that I can expect from here on. Is 38 good, or should I be expected higher?

its going to vary per ridding style. Running the Short Tors 1 up on a trip out west with a midsize screen I was getting 38 mpg doing 80 - 90 MPH down the I90 in South Dakota. On the same trip cruising speed 50 - 65 MPH I would get 42 - 48 MPG.

This season a lot has changed but the MPG are close. Full Size WindScreen and 2 up, Long Tors, DeCat with crossover pipes. My last 4 fill ups averaged from 38 - 42 MPG. I don't think I will see better then 42 MPG with my current setup.

Welcome to the family Vito and thank you for your service on this Memorial Day weekend. The NRA trains millions of responsible gun owners every year and they should never let people forget that fact.

MPG will depend alot on how you are set up. The more performance mods you do the worse your mileage will be. There are cats on this forum that ride the stock 1600 and get 48-50mpg combined and better on the straight highway to 56mph.
My ride is set up with short TORS plus a high flow air filter and I never got better than 42 with 1600 fuel mapping. Then I added 1700 camshafts and a 1700 fuel map and now I get about 36 on a fairly regular basis. That said I have never been shy about cracking my right wrist so I may hit 40 if ever get myself to slow down.

It is really hard to say what is expected - it really does vary a LOT with riding style. I think I could probably get mid to high 40s - I've seen what I think is close to that for the first half tank a couple of times. But I can never get through a whole tank without going on a good rip somewhere, and when you open it up, even with the 1600, you can pretty much burn fuel as fast as you please. I've definitely pushed it down into the low 20's for portions of a tank, like the day I was riding the Kankamangus... could have watched the fuel gauge moving if I could have spared the time from watching the blur that was the road!

I'm averaging about 41 mpg with 60/40 city/back roads on mine, over the last 3500 miles (5600 km). I'm not light on the throttle,so I'm pretty happy with that. Still way better mileage than my Honda Firestorm... but then I had trouble keeping the front tire on the ground with that bike.

Cheers,

Back when I used to track my mileage I generally got in the mid-40s. On long trips with mostly freeway traveling, I would get in the upper 40s.

I never tracked my mileage after the big-bore so I don't know how that would affect it.

Drive it easy and you'll get over 50.Beat on it and you'll be lucky to get 40.The best I've ever done with mine was 56.2.However,since I put on the Cee Bailey's windscreen, which gives me a lot better protection from the elements, the best I've done is 53 which ain't bad at all.But I don't it hard at all.
