Ok , I admit it i'm a unashamed fan of apehangers ,, Not the big mile high things you have to stand on your seat to reach , but the shorter 12 inch hangers , I will admit that the most comfortable easy to ride bike i've owned was the harley street bob , the mini apes on that suited my posture and my badly reconstructed shoulder perfectly .

But i will admit that on a long journey , sat on 100klm plus the wind hit me and i became a parachute , that i did'nt like , and that is why i don't have apes now.

but my mate bought a victory , the one thats like the street bob with mini apes , and he set of on a 10,000 klm trip , i said to him bet you come home on a different bike , you'll trade it in on your travels , he came home and he had a quick release screen on it , he reckons that it worked great with the apes , so it got me thinking .

Now a couple of weeks ago i was driving home from the gold coast to Adelaide , and it was around NOWRA in NSW i spotted it , first of all i seen it coming in my rear mirror , i instantly knew what it was , it came alongside and overtook me , and i tried to keep up to admire it , but heavy traffic i had no chance , what was it

A THUNDERBIRD with mini apes , and jeez it looked good , real fonzy like , does the owner come on this site , if you do how about a picture

Love the bars on the street bob, wonder how they'd work on a t-bird?

No fan of apes here - I always wonder how guys can ride with them. Whenever I see'em I think they look like antlers, ponder how tired my arms would get, and ask why anyone would want to sacrifice handling (surely there must be some impact) or comfort. But hey that's just me.

Regardless.... Rabbi, i gotta say I love that Capt. America tbird photo! All those stars, the two tone paint, and the chrome look great. To me it really highlights what's right about the original design fenders and not so great about the LT (sorry LT guys!).

Like i've said before i found them VERY COMFORTABLE , what i found was just putting my hands in front slighty higher , holding the grips with the elbows just dangling , there was no pressure on my wrists , non whatsoever on my shoulders , where just about every other bike i've owned i've had to buy risers and stuff , to stop me leaning on the bars ,

But mind you i'm only short and , i've got a shoulder thats completly stuffed , arthritas , rotary cuff stuffed , pins in it , ect ect .

Regards handling . I found that the street bob the bars were perfect for me , perfect position to push and pull especielly in the twisty stuff ,

My favorite ride is from the back of my house , where i hit hills and twisty stuff in 2-3 minuites of leaving , to a country town 55-60 klm away , nothing but bends ranging from 20 klm to 50-65 klm posted signs and a speed limit of 80 klm , so without even speeding , you can ride hard and have fun ,

I've done this road on lots of different bikes and was never any slower on the street bob with apes , in fact i was probably quicker o the street bob than i was on the thunderbird . The 650 v strom is the quickest , but the height and gearing are made for that road ..

All in all though i found them very comfortable ,

I think most don't like them because of the image they conjur up in there head that there only for pirates on harleys , but funny enough i think of apes and old time riders , i think of Hrleys nowadays , i think of posers and yuppies with forward controls and DRAGBARS.

the high ball is the t-bird sized victory with factory apes, the hardball is the touring model with factory apes. i've been searching for a set of apes to put on my triumph mostly cause the tbird bars seem so close the center between the risers on my victory cross country is only 1/4 inch off of the tbird so im thinking they might be able to interchange

I also am an unabashed fan of apes and as Triumph says, "Go your own way". Don't succumb to peer pressure and do what is expected. The Victory Cross Country in my thread has 17" apes, but because of the bend in the bar they only actually rise 15". I have 10" apes on my bird. They are off of a Dyna Wide Glide. 10" apes with our 4" risers takes the stock cables to their limits. I did extend the brake line with the kit that came with the Victory Arlen Ness bars.

The handling is perfect for my riding style and in the beginning I scraped my floorboards more often due to muscle memory of pushing the stock bars into a turn. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I say if you like it, do it!

I've ridden a few bikes with smaller apes and didn't mind them... The road king with 12" apes was great!

Could anybody have a guess how high these apes are?? 14 inch maybe?
Does the front end looked raked to you all or is it just the angle of the pic?
I reckon it looks great

Dunno what they are , at a guess i would say 16 inch ,, personaly if it was me i would go 12 inch mini apes , it does look raked , but that could be because its lowered at the back , he done it with shorter shocks , and reckons the new shocks being better and firmer , it did'nt make much difference to handling .

That i know where he's coming from , because i done it with my rocket . i lowered it 35mm with different shocks , (progresive , same has him ), and the extra firmness works .

Either way it looks good , sort of real cool , like a triumph should look . Go your own way .

Hmm. A bit dramatic, don't you think? Hey, let them do what they want. Fine with me. But Triumphs just don't seem like ape hanger type bikes. It would be like a serious chopper being ridden in Bermuda shorts, a pink Polo shirt and flip flop sandals.

A couple of weeks ago I watched a guy on a seriously extended chopper with high flying ape hangers try to make a U turn on a four lane road. He had to stop and back up 4 times to get the bike going the other way. The backing up was as funny as the lack of turn in the forward motion. But on the bright side, he only dropped the bike once, pinning his left leg under it.

Whatd wrong with Bermuda shorts , pink polo and flip flops , Suppose if you live in Bermuda some would think you look cool .

No differnt than 60 plus retired lawmen , running around with concieled weapons , thinking there John Wayne , and waiting for the oppertunity to shoot someone in the name of law and order , cos they think guns are cool .

And the dood only dropped it once , personaly i would of been the first ovver there to help him pick it up , doubt if i'd laugh at him ,

Would laugh at a dude , riding his thunderbird , along the highway with his , vest flapping away showing his magnum 45 , scowling at everyone and thinking , Cmon punks make my day , Now that i would find funny

Thunderbike makes a kit to increase rake. But not many fans of Thunderbike here. (because the company spammed the hell out of the forum in the beginning, and promoted major HP increases on their other products, which were never validated). Or something along those lines....

So you're a bleeding heart communist. What can I say? John Wayne? He was a wimp. He never went to war with his actor counterparts who rang up amazing combat records but he became a hero because he played one in movies. Kind of like many of you Aussies who were such great soldiers and then turned into mostly wimps believing if you just bury your heads in the sand and elect feel good politicians all the problems will go away.

Hey! You can have Obama! You kind of deserve him and then he would have a country like he wants with almost complete control of the subjects. Perfect!
