I'm trying to decide between the Storm and the Commander, and want to make sure I'm not missing any major differences, and I'd also welcome any personal opinions as well. Below are pros and cons of each bike:
Storm: Pros Detachable sissy bar Detachable bag brackets Slightly more power Seat choices
Cons Rear fender/plate
Meh May need to add floorboards Windshield choices Self-tunable
Commander Pros Looks of the wheels, headlight surround and rear fender Come with floorboards I've been told exhaust sounds better, stock Windshield mounts from Triumph are inconspicuous compared to Storm
Cons Non-detachable sissy bar No detachable bag brackets, yet Non tunable, yet
Meh Seat is great, IF it works for me Haven't seen the black and charcoal color
Thanks for any insight you may have!

I have done 25,000 miles on a Storm and it is a mighty impressive bike BUT if I were to choose now it would be the Commander. however it is a choice between a right decision and a right decision just one is lightly more right than the other.
Hope that helps you my friend.

Question : did they fix the problem with the heated grip

Mine is a 1700 and with a custom tune and cat removal (actually gutted) the power gains are about what i got going from the 1600 to the 1700 which is considerable. Much more power. But with the commander 2 things will hold you back from doing that. 1-cats are in the headers which may be impossible to remove. And 2- these bikes have the new locking ECU which renders it useless if you play around with mapping via tuneecu, and possibly other methods. The storm has the same cat as mine and if the new storms have that locking ecu you can always buy a older model or used. Of course if more power isn't a concern then no worries with the commander.

I really love the look of the Commander & intended on buying one until I took one for a test ride. I found the riding position to be very uncomfortable. The floorboards are too high compared to the seat & the handlebars come back too far. I'm 6'1".
I took a Storm for a test ride today & loved the riding position. The only thing I found to complain about was the speedo. The numbers are a bit small on the km/h speedo for my old eyes.

Short answer is no they aren't locked.
I bought my storm in Dec 2013 and it was sold by the dealer as a 2014 model.
I uploaded mark's seat hack tune today without a problem.

| Posted : 22 May 2014 - 17:03 Post title : Re: Commander vs. Storm (Re: dkizerian) | | I rode both yesterday and here are my findings and decision.
Storm: *engine felt a tiny bit "punchier" *sounds awesome *disliked the pegs, and was unsure of whether the floorboard kit would improve position *my arms and wrists didn't like the stock bar position, would definitely need longer risers at least. *hated the seat
Commander * Most of my likes for this bike are based on familiarity, it just feels right too me. So things feel the same as my outgoing vulcan, so just fall into place exactly where I would put them. *liked bars, will probably need short riser extensions which i think I can make work (I know I'm one of the only ones that likes these bars, but they are a close match to my vulcan, and just feel comfortable to me) *LOVED the seat *liked where the floorboards were, and with a slight adjustment to raise the shifter I'll be very comfortable *engine felt less hurried, which was comfortable to me. These are just my musings, and I could be completely wrong... The power on the commander felt less focused, less abrupt. I think when dyno sheets start showing up for the Commander or LT (wonder if they're even the same?) You'll see that the Torque curve is much less sharp at the front end (1500 - 3000 rpm) than the Storm's.
I really enjoyed both bikes, but the feel of the Commander matched my riding style and desires better than that of the Storm. Couple that with the familiarity of the bike and...

VERDICT - I'm ordering a black and silver Commander today, and then hoping it makes it here soon!
