It would be beneficial for us if we want to move this along to visit Progressives Facebook site and post polite reminders that we are in fact waiting for the release of shocks for the Thunderbird. Squeaky Wheels get greased! Every thing is in place but it has been slowed down due to the perception of the product to move in our part of the market place.

So I would encourage you to make a post on Progressives Facebook site: Link
This is sure to get the attention of those who monitor it for this purpose.

Some more details (please check out the facebook link, they responded right away, keep squeaking!) Seems there is a special component on the shocks they need to make and looks like they may be bumping it back (unless they hear from us) do the easy stuff first. That is my assessment..but what do I know about reading between the lines! Hit them hard guys!

Hi Eddy. I can,t understand why they are taking so long???
As I,ve said on here before, I transferred the 440,s from my speedy fitted with the heavier of the two spring options..the lighter springs were fine on the speedy for me..(i weigh approx 170 lbs)
I am running with the adjuster wound down to the second line and have lost approx 8mm (5/16") ride height which has been unnoticeable in
the bikes performance.
The rear suspension has coped perfectly with virtually all kinds of conditions (except ice/snow) if anything they are performing even better than they did on the speedy so it would seem that all they need to do is play with the length and springs...not rocket science...
If they are improving their performance I would be absolutely amazed as I honestly can,t find any criticism to level at them. The shocks have done approx 35,000 kms (22.000 miles) and are still performing as new.
I must admit that they are expensive (list price of over $1150 aust) but I now feel justified in their purchase...
The bike definitely needs front springs to compliment the rears so i,m patiently waiting for these to come on stream.
I found the standard rears too hard for me riding 1 up, the rear skipped and bounced around especially at higher speeds on our poor country roads, maybe ok with a passenger but not solo..
Hope this info helps other owners in the decisions of what to purchase/change, cheers all. Tadpole

Hey Tadpole,

What is holding up production to my understanding is they are making a new component for the shocks as a result of the field testing they did on Weatehrman's bike. I don't know exactly what it was but it was something unique to our bikes. This element has pushed the time line and from what I understand it becomes a prioritized item in the line up. If folks make posts on Facebook, those who move projects to the head of the line read it an they are the ones that can adjust the priority to get it moving faster or apply attention to other "squeaky wheels". So want to encourage everyone who is interested in the upgrade to make a post on Face book (as I did) letting them know we are out here waiting on them.

It is a sad reality for aftermarket items for almost every model of Triumph because the companies focus on the stuff that is in large quantities; 40,000 bikes sold vs 12,000 bikes sold represents more potential in their market places so they focus where they will likely prosper more. Just business as they say. I think it is pretty remarkable that we have this company even considering us so early in the game and it is because fires have been lit and they have been annoyed by phone calls from certain people...( ) but certain people are getting impatient because they too would like a set of shocks for MY new bike! I mean his new bike!

Eddy, do you know if the shocks for the Tbird are going to be the same price as the same model of shock for other bikes? In other words, If I wanted 440's will they be the same price as the 440 for the speedmaster?

Eddy,
I'm pretty sure the item you are mentioning here are the retaining washers "buttons" that keep the rear shocks on their mounting point.
When Progressive put their shock on the bike and bolted it on with the stock bolts and washers (rounded top fittings) they bound up
on the otherwise required pivot point. For my bike they made some in their shop but not finished products.
I'm pretty sure this must be what they are having someone make and will sell with the shocks.
The front springs as I remember also needed a off size (outside diameter) spacer that is typically just a standard size PVC product but needed to
be machined to fit the ID of the fork tube. Not sure if it was used in the finished product or not.
All - best of my memory from discussing issues with Progressive.

Are you happy with the new set-up weatherman ?
Pekka seemed to allude you were not ? If you already shared your findings I apologize.

DVR (thats a cute kid and I like the helmet) and All,
I'm sorry I have not made my long term opinion on the new shock setup yet. I have been pre occupied with life.
I had hoped to have more time with Pekka to go back and forth between bikes but did not get that opportunity as yet so for that we must wait till his next visit to the states.
I have so far put on most of my miles as two-up riding with some adjusting of the rear shocks.
I predicted that it would be difficult to improve on the basic ride of the Bird since they did such a good job on its suspension out of the factory.
That said -
The solo riding done so far (about 1000 miles on the new setup) was about 500 miles of break in time for the rears with gear hanging off the rear seat rack.
Overall I would say solo riding has improved with cornering being the most improved where it feels to be more stable on my close by and favorite back road run to the cousins house..
This is not a fast road (35-45 mph) but with multiple twisties (one heel dragger and occasional peg dragging spot) and not totally the smoothest road surface.
On the bumpy straights, The bike feels a little more choppy than before but this is a two up ride test and could be that I have the preload to high and want more time to play with the adjustment before I give my final opinion. I need to have some help in balancing the rear preload to the front.
I will reserve the right for a final opinion at a later date after ore riding.

Hey Enno,

These pictures are also here on the forum to be found.
X-choppers was once a member here but he could not stop advertising and promoting his company. So in the end he got the boot.

Anyway, Progressive has not yet released anything. So the ones you see until now all come without factory warranty or support.

All the info you need is here on the forum, just do a search if you like.

Enno,

Just as a matter of record, the vendor you mention mistakenly considered these forums to be his personal playground, even after receiving several private and then public warnings from us.

His information about the Progressive shocks was incorrect and was clearly countered by the Progressive representative who also happens to be a member on here (Maico_rider).

He then started insulting members who had different views and opinions and finally he resorted to threatening members with litigation.
He then attempted to bully us with threats of litigation (for millions) if we didn't delete the negative posts posted by the members on here (somehow he seemed to think we were his employees).
We showed him the door.
He has since attempted to come back on here under different names, but is not doing himself any favors.

Given the above explanation, we will be deleting any reference to his company, whether it be in text or photographic format (or whatever else, for that matter), something I am sure all will find understandable.

With you there. I do prefere the ones with the black springs. Or rather - they look good on a black bike, not sure what they would look like on my fast - err I mean blue bird. If I was to change it would be for cosmetic as I am ok with the stock.

Ok Guys

I have not known this.
Thanks for the information between xshoppers.

I thought only, it would be to be seen good how the T-Bird with shorter shocks would look.

I just spoke with Progressive and they told me that they just had a bike back in this past week (thanks Gary) and they are scheduled to cut loose APPROVED shocks for our bikes within the next week to two weeks.

OK, I spoke with Progressive again, there is a delay on the arts they are waiting for. There are two items they have to have made for proper fitment on our bikes..I will keep you informed.
