The stock badges are a joke so I debadged with late model Speedmaster tank badges (bigger and better) and then found Thunderbird dashboard badges that I heated and bent back so they form to the side panels... here are the links...

Starting at one end, use a blow dryer on the high setting to loosen the adhesive beneath the badge. This will take a few minutes to get an edge loose enough to slide a plastic paint scraper under the badge. At that point you just start gently AND SLOWLY working the scraper across the tank surface beneath the badge. Keep the hot air on the badge as you move across the tank with the scraper. Some people also use dental floss. That works too. But you'll need a third hand with someone to hold the blow dryer. Once the badge is off remove the balance of the adhesive on the tank with a Goof Off type product or anything alcohol based that removes adhesive. Make it nice and clean so the new adhesive sticks well.
Use 3M double sided tape (it is strong stuff) on the back of your new badge. Trim the excess with a single edge razor blade or excato knife. Then polish the new tape edge with an emory board to remove any remaining particles hanging off. Make it nice and clean and tight with no excess hanging off the edge of your new badge. Don't peel the tape backing off yet. Depending on the shape of your new badge and what tank it was made for you may have to re-shape it to fit the "Birds tank. That is why the new badges I bought are plastic. I was able to heat the edges with a blow dryer and mold the plastic to fit my new 'bird's tank. Once you have marked where you want the new badge on the tank, mark a couple of indicator points with a wax pencil. Use a small level to make sure the badge is not crooked. Peel off the tape backing and place the badge at the points you marked.
Now the tricky part is getting the other side to look just like the first side you did. Follow the same procedure as above but you have to measure your distance points from reference spots on the tank with a soft tape measure to make sure the sides both look the same. It won't matter if one badge if off the other by quarter inch. More than that and its gonna look goofy and uneven. Use a small piece of the double sided tape just to hold the second badge in place while you eyeball it from all angles and measure from set points on the tank. Once you feel it is as close to the positioning on the tank as the first badge then mark that new badge's edges with your wax pencil. Remove the badge and put your full tape on the badge and set in place. Voila... You may also find a Youtube video by keying in "Debadging Your Motorcycle."
