| Posted : 28 Apr 2010 - 05:16 Post title : Laughlin River Run | | Did the 28th (or 27th) Annual Laughlin River Run this past Friday through Sunday with Pekka (Pappasgarage) and had a great time. The ride through the desert, going and coming home, was long and straight but the mountain passes made up for them. Actually the desert this time of year is very pretty with all the flowers. We took many opportunities to stop and take photos. The Birds clocked 900 plus miles round trip with only a small amount of liquid(s) lost (not enough to discourage side trips anyway)along the way. There were 30,000 motorcycles there according to the news. We saw only one other Triumph (a Bonnie) during the weekend - 25,000 HD's, 4,897 HD look-a-likes and 100 sport bike types. With both small and big name vendors, live entertainment, hotel casinos, and the Colorado River as a backdrop, most had plenty there to keep them busy. We did a side trip out into the mountains to the East on Historic US Route 66 to a little town called Oatman Arizona. Do it some time if you are in the area. Overall a very nice setting and at only 350 miles one way - the good roads, good riding temps, changing senery and a good friend and riding buddy to share it with - I couldn't have asked for a better ride. Thanks Pekka Gary
| If there's a T-bird in the garage then your either sick, broke or missing the time of your life. Get out and ride that Bird.
The Tbird arrived June 26, 2009 - Speedy was traded in June for a 2012 Bonnie T100.

That is amazing just how many are riding without ANY protection! Is that normal over there?
Here in Switzerland/Germany you might find 1 in 100 that has as little protection such as a T-shirt or Short trousers - otherwise, protective jacket, trousers, boots!

Normal? Most of them were heavily armoured for over here.
I'm looked at a bit odd (especially among cruiser riders) as I always wear gear. Having said that, I've never owned riding pants. Should give you an idea of what people wear if I'm the decked out one.

Well, knowing that - that's now put me well and truly into & over the "I don't get it" side of the scale....
Is their health or safety not on the checklist when getting ready for a ride?!? I suppose skin nearly always grows back in time....

Ps . Not so sure I like the new HD model with those big ear things and fluffy tail - could be a smoother ride though.

But there was a lot of other things hanging out that we saw unprotected as well

Helmets being required is a state-by-state decision. In states that don't require helmets, like Wisconsin and Indiana, it's actually rare to see a Harley rider with a helmet. That's why HD riders are called "squids". When they crash, the result blood splat looks like a squid.
