Somewhat foolishly I trusted the fuel gauge beyond the fuel reserve indicator light! Silly silly boy!

Weather was good, the riding was brilliant and then (with 57 miles still indicated on the gauge) a cough a splutter and loss of power.

Now I had been on reserve for a while so probably well over 200 miles ??? but I hadn't been counting. Had to be rescued by my brother ??? he gave me a fuel litres to garage to fill up with an additional 20 litres (5.3 US gallons) so it was a touch dry!

Don't get caught folks!

So you are saying DTE (distance to empty) was still reading 57 miles when you ran out?

curious. Must of had a stuck float or something for that to happen. I think youre fine to trust the gauge so long as you notice that number actually move over time and you haven't been riding for nearly an hour with the light on

Yep - 57 miles (unless it was yards if so it was spot on!)

Idicated full after fill up - after usual delay.

Don't know the route of the problem but my carefree riding bliss contributed to my troubles. Must admit the thought had crossed my mind that I hadn't filled up in a while!

Well I've taken mine into the Zero Zone (DTE=Zero) a couple of times and experience a few 'coughs' and 'engine stalls' while it was there!
Welcome to the club BlueNose - if ya 'Bird stalled, you're a qualified ZZ member!

My technique is to watch the trip counter. Once that thing tells me 300 km (180+ miles) or over, I start looking for the next garage.

I'm a ZZ member!

Will be keeping my eye on the trip from here on in.

Waiting by the road is not something I wanna do again anytime soon.

Took my indicator down to 0 miles left, (at 200 miles worth of travel). Then filled up the tank. I calculated there was 1/2 gallon left before gassing up. That would have given me about another 20 miles worth of travel. That's cutting it somewhat close. From now on, I'll be looking for gas at 180 miles.

Had mine to 37 miles and no issue -but I was worried.
I have noted on the trip to Laughlin that there can be a difference on the "miles to go" display depending on how fast I was going.
Don't remember for sure to quote, but there was a big difference between 75 mph and 45 mph.

If there's a T-bird in the garage then your either sick, broke or missing the time of your life.
Get out and ride that Bird.

The Tbird arrived June 26, 2009 - Speedy was traded in June for a 2012 Bonnie T100.

miles to go will depend on fuel consumption,
usually the faster you go the more fuel you use
i dont know what the optimum speed is for the bird, i would guess around 55mph

Maybe you should carry a little plastic bottle with a qt. of gas somewhere on your bike BN.
