| Posted : 25 Apr 2010 - 14:30 Post title : kuryakyn foot pegs | | I installed the kuryakyn switch blade pegs on the bird the other day, I really like these on my speedmaster and thought they would be a good addition to the bird (which they are). And they look good too.
A word on caution, the regular triumph adaptors listed - kuryakyn pn#8840 are not correct for the 1600 thunderbird, they fit the old thunderbird 900, and the s/m and americas. I was able to use the 8840 by adding a flanged bushing under/though the adaptor. Bit of a hassle, I am sure there is (or could be) a ready to use foot peg adaptor but I don't know the pn.

For the front I used the Kuryakyn 8840 Metric Adapters for Triumph from FES. No problem at all. I re-installed the stock pin and wasser. Because there is some 5mm space between the peg and adapter I installed about 4 stainless steel wassers at the lower site so the total peg is installed a little higher, just to give some more cornering space.

the pins seemed too loose to me so I bushed down the diameter for a tighter fit, I didn't want the pegs rattling around. As you did, I spaced up the bottom for the clearence. What I was getting at is there should be a Kuryakyn adapter that fits straight out of the box.

What it is going to take is doing a hit and miss investigation to find options but they don't make many variations in the metric adapter line up. I will work on this to see if there are better options, but in the end, I doubt they will make one specific for the Thunderbird, likely as they have not made one for the R3 or America/Speedy, but found one that was close and functional and said.."That works!"
I have tested some that were supposed to work on some models and I really found it was a stretch to say they were even close. But the 8840 for the front and the 8802 for the rear of the Thunderbird is the closest KNOWN, match. Anyone know anything different, please let me know. If a specific washer option makes it work better let me know and I'll include those with a set.

Do you know of a harley peg adapter that would work with the bird?

If there was a direct Cross over you would not need an adapter at all and there would just be the direct "male" foot pegs. eddy

I used to have a set of ISO-Wings on my old V-Star 1100, and my Mrs. wanted them fitted to the Bird. I couldn't find any male mounts on the Kuryakyn site, so I used the male mount adapters off my 1100. The clevis pin on the 1100 is smaller than on the Bird, so I had to drill the holes out a little (from 7mm to 8mm) and also add a packing washer.
Tight as a bug in a rug, now and looking great.
But would love for Kury to bring out one specific to the Bird. If anyone hears of it if they do, then please post a message or PM me.
Cheers, Gonzo

The holes dont line up and even if they did, they wouldnt fold up if you scraped them. The peg mount on the bike has a back, so its like a box, if that makes sense. You will need a radiused or rounded adapter to make them work. I used 8813 and had to have them ground down to a curved mount, just to get it to fold in, and then the back of the peg had to be ground down to get the holes to match up. A huge pain int he ass and since I had noe of that stuff I had to pay someone to do it for me. It wasnt cheap and washers were still needed for it to mount correctly. I used the 8813 because its what was used for the rocket.
