Jacking adapter for 2010 Thunderbird -
As mentioned here on the forum, Triumph has built a tool for lifting the rear of the bike.
Having a Speedmaster for the last 5 years i have grown to appreciate being able to lift the
bike when cleaning it and especially the wheels. Obviously, any maintenance we do to our bikes on the
rear and front suspension, tires, wheels, drive belt, etc. would require a trip to the shop or
provide for ourselves a way to lift the bike. For that purpose on the Speedmaster I have used the aluminum
jack offered by Sears. Its a great jack being light and a little more user friendly than the
less expensive alternative found at many automotive supply stores.
I was very dismayed to see I could not use my jack for the Tbird and after hearing what some
of the Tbird owners resort to and even shops do to lift their bikes i was shocked.
With my desire to lift the bike properly and not risk damaging anything, I decided to invest some time and materials into designing
a tools that suited my needs.
The rear was pretty easy because triumph had already built into the bike a spot on either
side of the bike to accept a support column that fit between the many obstructions under the bike.
Given the many obstructions there was only one combination of angles and twists that would work
so I built the rear support columns to clear the obstructions, sit on my sears jack, and it
works well. Now with the rear jacking adapter made I set out to find and adapt to the best
(strongest and least obstructed) location on the front of the bike that would support the weight, and lastly be able to be used with a
scissor jack or motorcycle jack.
I have now fabricated a prototype of the 2010 Tbird jacking adapter for the front and rear of the bike
tested it and have used it many times with excellent results.
Someone posted the cost of the special tool from Triumph that only lifts the rear of the bike which was approximately
225.00 (US dollars). This price seemed step to me but I have to tell you that is actually a fairly reasonable price for it given its
complexity, need for laser or water jet or other means of cutting pieces, material costs, assembly labor and
the fact that a limited number would be manufactured so no real break for large numbers of units.
So, question - Would anyone be interested in having a jacking adapter fabricated that would do double duty?

Do you have any pics of your jacks in use. Would like to see them. I use my sears motorcycle jack that I modified to pick the bird, but I would like something simpler and steadier.

I'd like to see it in pics too.
Although I still think the Triumph option is way too expensive even with tooling, they should have come up with a less expensive option when making a frameless bottom.

I'm interested!

When I was cleaning my Bird for the first time and thought, "I should put it up on the bike jack to do the job right..."

So I pulled the scissor jack from under my V-Star 1100 and put it under the Bird. Had a good look under there for the first time and said to myself "Bugger, how the hell am I supposed to jack this thing up???"

So, yes please... Keep us informed and look forward to some more pics.
