bout 40 min including adding the cowl

Step by step from memory went like:

1. disassemble the ring from the headlight housing by removing the 2 screws that old it in. disconnect headlight bulb plug from bulb.

2. remove spring clips and the stock light diffuser should be lose, there is a small clip it sit in that is part of the ring. just work the light out of it.

3. the small clip no needs to be bent back

4. place daymaker into the ring with the small rubber gasket and re-install the clips, they are tighter going in since the daymaker mounting area is thicker. !!!!!Make sure headlight is center and in proper orientation!!!!!

5. plug in the daymaker into the headlight socket.

6. center ring and reinsert the 2 screws that hold it in place

Sorry to threadjack, but where did you GET the JW Speaker ones? I looked everywhere and just couldn't find a decent seller. The couple places I found cost more than the HD version.

I believe every site would cost more then the HD, I paid $470 for each light and at the time the only other light was a Harley light, but it had the Harley Davidson name right in the light, about 2 months after I purchased these lights Harley came out with a much lower priced one

I emailed JW Speaker directly about their lamp before buying a H-D Daymaker. Here was the response I got from them:

Thank you for your inquiry. The model 8630 is designed for a heavy truck application and does not usually fit a standard motorcycle bucket. Please go to the website and look at the spec sheet for the model 8630. If you look at the side view of the lamp, you will notice that the housing comes out almost straight. Most motorcycle buckets are very angled. In most cases, the 8630 will bottom out in the housing and only fit in about an inch or so. J.W. Speaker does make a 5.75" lamp for Harley that does fit in a motorcycle bucket, but that lamp can only be purchased through a Harley dealer. If you measure your bucket and think the model 8630 will fit, please let me know and I will give you contact information for dealers in Minnesota.

The JW Speaker version is not the same size/depth as the H-D light. They also do not offer it in chrome which I wanted for my bike. In the end, I am very happy with the Daymaker. The only H-D branding on the new version (sometimes referred to as the "teddy bear" version) is a tiny and subtle Bar/Shield logo over the parking lamp (3/8 of an inch maybe). The install was easy, although I think my alignment is a tiny bit off so I will be opening it up again.

The J W wasn't a direct fit, did some modification to get it to fit, but all in all looks great, works great and I'm very happy with it ....haven't seen the new H D daymaker yet but there has to be a lot of similarities

Would I do it again? hell no !!! Rather just get a direct fit on and save on the frustration

I was at a local Dealer looking at some stuff and there were a lot of Harley's in the parking lot. I talked to a couple of the owners that had the Daymaker's and they all said that the night time light is terrific but in the daytime, "oncoming traffic didn't see them very well because there isn't a large reflective area behind the LED's so it looks like a couple of small lights from a distance," especially the one that has a black background. Down here in S Florida, it's always very bright in the daytime and I need all the visibility I can get considering I have to share the road with all of the Snow Birds and Retirees driving around.

I wish I could see a regular Thunderbird sitting next to one with the Daymaker from about 30 to 50 feet away so I could decide if I'm going to pull the trigger and spend the money.

The newer Harley Daymaker's seem to have the reflective lens so they might be better in the daylight

I have the new Daymaker next to Kuryakyn LED driving lights. If I run with them all on, I am seen, even in the daytime. The driving lights are more noticeable in the daylight then the Daymaker though...

5 1/4 if I recall? As for upgrading to LED, I think they blow away and type of HID or any other kind of light upgrade.............the country roads where I live light up and I can actually see the deer in the ditch now.. and I do believe these lights I installed are the same ones HD uses .... without the HD logo in it

Ok thanks mate i was just in Peter Stevens and they had the Daymaker 5 3/4 light for $514.70 for one headlight.

Its a bit dear for me. i am thinking about retro fitting a HID projector inside the lens...

Where did you get yours from?

I bought mind from a place in British Columbia, clear across Canada ....but I remembering reading on the forum here of a few guys who purchased theirs at a HD dealership for about a quarter of the cost, don't think they were the JW Speaker one but probably worked as well......

look up the post on JW Speaker 8630 Dual Beam LED 6" Headlight - march 29, 2014

First of all, thank you for your information about your experience on these modifications! I'm thinking about doing the same on my T-bird Storm 2014 and I've suffered to find examples of this upgrade, until I found this forum (blessed forum)! As you said, the J W speaker gave you some hard time on the modifications to install it... Do you know if the HD Daymaker fits on our buckets with no needs for any adaptations (once they're made with some differences for motorcycles, as said in the e-mail of the JW)? And about the eletric system, is any adaptation necessary? Thank you and sorry about my rusty english!

I had to grind the shyt out the inside of the light to make it fit because the JW light is made for a truck application, from what I've read on here is that others have tried the HD light and it fit perfectly without any mods to it, just dropped into the bucket (I still think the JW looks better)

There is another thread about this light .... JW Speaker 8630 Dual Beam LED 6" Headlight .... I believe it was around May of last year

It's always better to get more lighting on a bike to see better and be seen better

Do these have a good spread when leaning into corners? I've heard they don't perform as well as normal lights through corners.

Do normal lights on any type of motorized vehicle work better? I have 4 cars, 1 truck, 1 bike ........ all my cars and truck have HID in both low and high beam, I have yet to find a bulb that lights up the road as much as HID and now on my bike LED ..... even on my 4 wheeler I use a 10 inch LED bar light and that lights up the whole trail ... whoever told you LED or even HID don't perform as well as stock lights has to be smoking something
Why do you think most high end cars and trucks come stock with HID or even now the very expensive LED headlights

Fair enough but this is what I read on the v-twinforum

I have had the LED headlight on my 2012 Ultra for over 9 month and really like it for lighting up the road. There are a couple things I don't like about it and was wondering if it's the design of I have a bad light. I did adjust the beam to the instructions and it looks perfect going straight down the road.

When I'm in very dark canyons or open roads going in a straight line, I light the road in front of me like daylight and able to see very well. As soon as I take a sharp twisty or banking turn, I can't see the road in front of me (going around the turn) worth a dam. Going to work in the early mornings is painful.

The beam is a flat projected light and when I'm in turns, the beam now projects down on the road to the right or left of me (generally in the ditch next to me) with the other part of the beam projecting out to Mars. I changed the bulbs in my spots to the higher wattage/Brighter PIAA bulbs, but it just doesn't seem to help at all in dark canyon twisties. I hate to say it, but I'm almost ready to go back to my old headlamp since it covers a lot more of the road in front of me evenly.

I would just like to know before plinking down a wad of cash:
Does the Harley LED Spot lamps fill in the gaps and give you decent visiblity in the tight turns. Custom Dynamics doesn't take returns back and I'm not going to stop riding at night

In my opinion about aftermarket lighting is..."you get what you paid for"

I have ordered cheap Chinese HID's for a fraction of the cost of local ones, and that's exactly what they turned out to be, cheap lights ....no real beam, blow out very quickly, ballasts frying, just ain't worth a &%$#.....
With LED I've learned the same thing, I have Rigid LED lights for those dark nights along with HID's ....the Rigid I've paid almost $500 for them over 3 years ago, and they are still as bright as the day I bought them ..... on the other hand I bought a $150 light bar from Ebay from china because I didn't want to pay the $700 price tag for Rigids again, well guess what, I have a Rigid light bar on my 4 wheeler now and couldn't be happier, if that person is using some cheap knock off LED light then I'm sure he's not happy with it, you should ask what kind of light he's using ...... I guess the best thing I can do when I get a chance is record on my GoPro some night to show the beam low/high and how it lights the road at night so you can have a feel for how well it works, or if its not for you
