I can't tell you how many Harley guys have said to me... "why didn't you get a Harley?"

Living in Wisconsin, I get that all of the time. I ususally reply 'because I can't afford one'. They think I mean financially and the conversation ends.
Not riding HD just baffles the hell out of people here in WI even though very few bikes or parts are made here any longer.

Do people in Iowa get asked 'why not a Victory?'

I get that a lot here in CO too. A good friend/riding buddy asked me why I didn't 'upgrade' to a Harley instead of buying my T-Bird? I replied, " Well, it's faster, quicker, has more torque, more horsepower. It handles better, stops quicker, is cheaper to maintain, accessorize, and insure." Ummm... What was the question again?

Oh, and don't ask me if I want to race. Now... If you are going to drop $5000 on a screamin' Eagle stage II with the pipes, intake upgrade, Dyno remap etc....

Then you REALLY don't want to race me, 'cause then it would just be embarrassing, and we're friends, and I would feel bad.

John, i can tell you from personal experience that the 103 harley is no match for the 1600 let alone the 1700 so i wouldn't even sweat a stage2 hardly if i were you

currently on a slow Harley but will have another Triumph eventually

It's all about market share isn't it. Triumph and other manufacturers are just as guilty. Would I buy an entry bike Harley? Hell no, but that Harley culture will have many flocking to these and many just for the sake of saying I own a Harley. It is what it is. I buy based on performance, price and needs as many of you do. I do have to say Harley is coming around and I've done my research, 2009 and up had many improvements and the 2014 Mount Rushmore models even more. Only the Ultra Classics are water cooled by the way. I seem to ride only with Harley guys and get no grief but the occasional why. I think HDs do have more problems but easily supported and parts are readily available. I lost a throttle cable on a Friday night a week before a trip and was told on saturday there are only 3 in the US at dealer shops and more at distribution so I had to wait for an overnight shipment on Tuesday since shops are usually closed Monday and I could not get parts shipped Saturday. That was 5 days and I was sweating it. HD cable Saturday, no problem, how many you want? That kind of crap eats at you. I have to admit I am leaning to an Ultra Classic because I want a bagger, Although I'm close, it's all been fitting and making things work and I'm still not where I wish I was. And it cost money and time. If Triumph does finally build one, you'd have to believe the price in the US would be around $20K or more. At 16,500 for the LT with no hard bags , crash bars etc pricing will get up there. Then of course it would be first year and model for Triumph, so what issues, quality and updates will they provide over the next few years that may have us frustrated. Many of us have had to make changes to the Birds to customize them for performance, comfort, hard bags etc etc. You have to admit with HD models you can pretty much get what you want with he various models the offer. It may cost more but I've spent enough on mine to almost have justified a HD. So if one day I bail and move to the dark side and you happen to pass me by I will give you a wave Please don't get the wrong idea, I love my Thunderbird and Speedmaster but wish for a bit more as I age.

Jango there is a great alternative to the ultra classic, the victory cross country tour, ive owned both and can tell you that its not perfect like the bird but its better than the ultra classic, throttle by wire bikes are terrible. the biggest positive is the accessories, more variety and cheaper pricing for the Harley stuff but the Victory XCT has more offered for it than our birds. Just a little food for thought if we never get a tbird bagger

I like the new seat and maybe the pipes, just saying I think Triumph lost out when they introduced the Bird and didn't follow up with any changes until 4 years later and then raided the accessory bin.

Great idea actually, I did give them a look a few years ago but they lost me when they built that Jetson's scooter cruiser. I kinda like some of new Bird changes but one thing that's a bit disappointing will be trying to fit an aftermarket fairing on them if you're into a bagger and want the performance of Triumph.
