New pipes for the Thunderbird from Thunderbikes nz.

No idea how they sound but they are claiming 5hp gain and a loss of 6.5ish kg.

Looking around $1500 AUD with CAT removal if I read it correctly.

Would love to hear a youtube clip as per staintunes or forans.

Guess we will have to wait and see

if they sound anywhere near as good as their pipes for the america/speedmaster then they will be the best sounding pipes for this bike. so far tho the BC pipes are the best looking out so far and are stainless. the more pipes thatc ome out the better i feel about the BC hog slayers

I was checking those out a while back and digging the look. very similar to stock. But i had thier pipes on my speedmaster and the quality was horrible. they sounded good, but the chrome was shit (you could see the sanding marks on the metal underneath) and the ends aren't rolled and the chrome gradually chipped off. Plus they cost a fortune. I'll pass. best looking ones so far tho, cept for the TORs of coors.

Live in Perth , So unfortunately a bit out of the way . All I can say quite loud under accelleration , but quiet when cruising . My mate has a Harley and says , when I'm in front , he hears straight away when I'm giving it some . But before , he had to wait until the distance grew between us .

Hi there, quick intro - I'm Kevin from Thunderbike in NZ, been here a couple of years now and am looking after the Thunderbike Products and webshop side of things. I'm new to posting on forums so bear with me on this one!

Thought I'd put up a couple more photos of our mufflers.

Comparison of prototype muffler to standard

Comparison of length to standard

Comparison end on to standard

Thunderbike mufflers viewed from above

I'm going to be trying to keep an eye on the forums and post when I've got anything relevant to add but be patient if there are delays, I've got to squeeze this in when I can and we live in a different time zone to most!

Count me out too, I had exactly the same problems plus the "run around" from customer service pre-purchase (where I was mislead about performance gains on the 865) and after the problems came about with the quality.
Never again!

Yeah, and we weren't the only ones either. The problem was two fold in that the metal under the chrome wasn't sanded smooth so the sanding marks shown thru. But the other issue is that if you're going to use chrome you MUST roll the edges like even TORs have. Otherwise the chrome will always peel away eventually. Pipes like BC are ok like that because they are SS, not chrome. I did love my speedy's sound with them tho. better than my Tbird's note with the TORs easily. To be fair tho the TORs do seem to have mellowed a bit. They were harsh and midrangy sounding at first. Or maybe my ears just became accustomed to them.

Welcome Kev

I had a set of your long slash cuts on my Speedmaster and I was very happy with the tone, the fit and the chrome...

When are you going to make some sorties for the T Bird? The market has plenty of longs but only Triumph offer an off the shelf shorty.

Thanks for the reply . My shorties are , quiet on idle and a nice note under throttle , but not loud enough for me , Basicly do you know if i will get much more volume if i do the bypass or such has well .

Local Exhaust bloke who comes HIGHLY reccomended was telling me he gets the shits when people come in and tell him removing the cat thingy will increase volume , he says thats not an exhaust thing he reckons its the pipes , but did say that maybee a by pass will help .

I'M CONFUSED all i want is a set off loud pipes , that sound good , I've got tors on my RT3 and there perfect nice note and not loud but i use that with the wife on the back touring , and long journeys on sundays over 100 klm .

The thunderbird i want LARAKIN ,, second childhood , set off alarms in carparks , My Harley street bob was perfect with the s&s pipes on but the bike was'nt has good Its hard , cos i don't want to keep wasting money with trial and error .

I heard the forans , when i picked mine up but it was the only set they had done , they kicked it over inside the shop for a few seconds , but i could'nt compare to the Shortys because there was none although i thought yea thats what i want , I took the advice of the Salesman when he said the shorties were just has loud , and that the mechanics could'nt get rid of a backfire with the forans, plus i was'nt keen on the look of the forans , Sort of thinking he told me what i wanted to hear . Although i love the look of the Shortys .

I'm confused , getting broke ,

So one last question for ya , have you heard yours against a set off Forans , they have only sold one set of forans in SA .But i believe quite a few in the west, if you have how do they compare .

Bit far for me too come and listen , but heh next year a trip to Perth is on the cards .

Thanks in advance

Hi, sorry to hear about the bad experiences here, I know there was a big problem early on when some pipes went out and the chrome pretty much fell off which from what I've heard was a real nightmare. Needless to say that chromer has never been used by us since. We do offer a six month warranty on chrome which is the same warranty Triumph offer on their own chrome parts.

I'd have to respectfully disagree on the rolled ends. The chrome has to finish somewhere and on a rolled end it will still end on the end if you know what I mean. Albeit not on a square edge. Good chrome on a square edge shouldn't cause any extra problems.

The other reason not to use rolled ends is so that we can keep supplying pipes with removeable/serviceable internals.

Hi, we decided early on to go with a different length to Triumphs own offerings, that's why we ended up with the mid length pipes. At the moment it's pretty doubtful we'll be making two different models for the Thunderbird but you never know...

Aha! The quote button's the boy for the job! Working on that, all I have at the moment is a clip on a digital camera. Not sure it does them justice but I'll try to get it out there soon.
