I find the reach to the levers too extreme on extended rides. Especially the brake lever. Has anyone had and experience with adjustable levers for the t bird?

When I first started riding this bike, I hated the levers - too far out and too chunky. To my knowledge there is nothing available that is adjustable either from the aftermarket or even retrofit from another model. Unless you go with full custom controls, I believe you're stuck with them. I've sort of gotten used to it, but when something comes out, I'll be first in line to change mine.

Thanks for the reply edbob. I went down to my local dealer and had a chat to the boys there about the problem. They said they get the question a lot but no on has ever asked them to do anything about it. So I asked them. One of the guys there managed to track down replacement levers from Triumph UK. They are sceptical at this stage because Triumph Aus does not have the parts on their list and we are concerned about the fit of the brake lever to the master cylinder. The new part is just the actual lever. If the parts arrive I will have the boys put them on and ride home to post a link with part numbers for anyone interested. Might just have found a fix for my one big issue with my bird.

Hi Guys, Hated the levers when I got the bike but after nearly 4 years I guess I,m used to it but must admit I wish there was an alternative,,,my speedy was adjustable and I was happy with them....Gave up trying to find something after a year searching, grrrr, how hard can it be to have a whole bunch of master cylinders with the same body and just change the bore and levers to suit whatever,,,nahhhhh, to bloody easy and logical I guess..Anyway good luck..cheers, Tadpole

I don't like them so far out either. Did wonder if the speedmaster levers would fit? Get another pair and bend them maybe

Exciting news.

Adjustable levers arrived from Triumph UK today and the boys at Northside Motorcycles Artarmon are convinced that they are the goods. Having them fitted in the morning and will ride home to post pics and part numbers.

Hey Aussie Duck. I posted a reply to this weeks ago but it seems to have gotten lost someplace (my end no doubt). Levers arrived today and having them fitted tomorrow. Clutch lever $80, Brake Lever $86.00. Both ex fitting costs. I'll post results tomorrow.

so are you saying that these are triumph oem parts? if so I would be very surprised that you will have ones off other model triumph
bikes that will fit I have tried 3 different types of triumph levers and without a lot of customizing they will not fit.
I hope you do find some though and post a picture and part numbers as I will be keen for them and others will too.

Hi Jamie. I held the puppies in my hand an hour ago. They are OEM parts for the t bird, bagged and stickered from Triumph in the UK. I'm still a little skeptical myself and won't call it a winner until I have applied the brakes a couple of times and we stop. Buggered if I know why they are such a secret if Triumph actually makes them. To be honest, for a bike that costs over $20k, adjustable levers should be a standard item. It's not the cost, but they really are a safety essential, not an accessory. It's not like only big blokes buy the bird. You could make the same argument for the rocket and I believe it comes with adjustable levers as standard. Anyway, off my high horse. I'll be happy to have found a solution if they fit as this has been bugging me since new. I'll post pics tomorrow. Part numbers are: T-T2040351 LEVER, CLUTCH, ADJ/P and T-2020112 LEVER ASSY, BRAKE.

Hi Frank

I hope these work as I'll be in for a pair straight away myself ... but a google seach on those numbers brings up early adjustable Trident levers and the Thunderbird SPORT 98-04.... No mention of the newer 'bird.

Also all the suppliers still had them on their lists but nearly all (except Sussex Motorcycle Parts, UK) had them as no longer supplied.

Best of luck... I want these to work..!!!

Here's hoping. As I said, I now have a pair and will know tomorrow morning if they are the goods or not. I'll let you know.

Also, reading the quote at the bottom of your post reminds me that I'm always looking at my bird, wondering what I can take of to make it just a bit lighter, but I never wonder why I bought it. Three years now and I still smile every day.

It is a definite safety issue. They tried so hard to make it look chunky that the levers are just out of proportion with reach. And by no means am I stubby fingered (xl-xxl gloves to fit right). I've never had a bike without adjustable levers. Please let this be so!

OK boys, now for the (expected) bad news. Neither of the levers even came close to fitting despite what it said on the packaging. To those whose hopes I raised only to shatter them with disappointment, my wife says welcome to my world. Apparently I regularly promise a better fit only to not come thru with the goods. So I'm pissed off but not surprised. Time to move on and fix the things I know can be done. Like the rear suspension and the crappy horn. Sorry again lads. How about you locals riding up to Hinkley and demanding some action.

Bugger...!!! Thanks for the effort ....

You'd have thought by now that with the number of 'birds sold and the obvious demand for the adjustable levers one of the Chinese manufacturers would have them on their list by now.... Oh well..!!

I think the problem lies with the clutch lever. I beleve the whole geometry would have to change in order to fully disengage with such a short pull. Now with the brake lever you can adjust it with the screw on the master cylinder plunger, It will still rest in the same spot but with no pressure and when applied it will be closer to the grip.

I agree with all of that Linkdog, but I don't find the clutch to be much of an issue. As you get a chance to close your hand rather than keeping the fingers fully extended, the clutch doesn't seem to be a bother. I'd be happy just to find a fix for the brake lever.

Yeah, I "knew" it all along really. Thinking of buying a standard lever and trying some heat and a hammer.

Failing that, I found this thing online that's sort of a glove with weights on each of the fingers. You wear it for five hours a day, five days a week for five months and by the end of that time, your fingers have stretched five inches. Might try that as it seems about as likely as Triumph including the bird in their run of bikes with adjustable levers.

THE END
