Purchased a long haul solo seat and the adjustable backrest. The backrest has 4 bolts on the bottom of the bracket, but can't see where or how it is to be mounted. I assumed it would have a bracket that would have mounted to the fender in place of the pillion bracket, but there wasn't one included. Can somebody let me know how this is to be mounted?

Are those saddle bag brackets part of it or a separate part that just happens to be in the photo? Every picture I have seen of that backrest, on several sites, all show it with the same bag brackets (which I don't want). Thanks.

Thanks for the offer, but I ended up putting on an OEM luggage rack and mounted a stainless steel plate to it, then mounted the backrest to the plate. I bought a small trunk that went over the plate to hide all the mounting hardware.

my idea is for someone to make a backrest like this but use the stock pillion mounting bracket plate to make it look more compact.

Now that would be a nice piece of kit - would buy one of those in a second. For that matter, why doesn't anyone make a fender rack that could use the stock pillion bracket?

Thanks Alex,
Trying to get ready for a 600 mile ride, but sure has been hard to find any decent quality bags.
You would think with all the bags on the market one of these companies would be able to adapt one to fit on the Thunderbird better.
The ones I have look adequate but they are pretty flimsy. Our local Harley dealer is now selling Triumph as well, so I am hoping that maybe they can find me something that even I can adapt if need be. Have a good weekend.
Bob

Nice, what company is your cargo trunk from, and does it fit the Triumph rack with out to many modifications?

The trunk and bags are from RideBikeGear.com and I think they are the same as many other sites, however, they are rather thin ABS plastic and the weatherstripping is virtually useless. I spent two hours removing the adhesive residue with GooGone after the stripping came off. I actually replaced it with an LED strip lighting that I sell in my business that is encompassed in a rectangular silicone tube approx 3/16" x 1/2" which I glued on with silicone adhesive. I have to pull the lid out to clear the strip when I close it but there is room for it and it now seals very well. (plus it lights up) They say it will mount to any luggage rack with there hardware and that may be true, however, in order to bolt the rack to the bike you have to install the trunk afterwards which is not feasible so I bought four chrome straps with the rubber grommets and mounted them to the rack; threads up then just drilled more holes in the bottom of the trunk and secured it with fender washers and wingnuts so I could remove it easily.

All that cargo space and backrest is in lieu of where your passenger usually sits.

Does anyone know of a saddle bag support that will fit the Triumph OEM quick release sissy bar and rack? All the supports seem to use the mounts which are covered by the Q/R side arms. I'm still deciding against Leather of hard bags as I only need extra luggage capacity 2 or 3 times a year. I want it to look good on the bike but practical too. Cheers Steve

Hi Steve.
I've just put on my new buffalo saddlebags from Hepco&Becker. I use the OEM Triumph Sissybar with quick release system and put it together with the easy brackets from Fasteddy. So finally I got a quick release Sissybar AND a couple of quick release saddlebags. For me this was very important because I like riding without all this and only use the gear if I go on longer tours with my wife. So I wanted it quick release.
Have fun

Hi Birdy, thanks for that. I have looked at the Hepco & Becker system and whilst not cheap it does seem very sturdy. It was interesting to see all the different combinations of luggage on various bikes on my recent tour. One sports bike had 3 plastic garden chairs strapped upside down on the back of his bike!! I've just come back from 1400 miles around Europe - got as far as Saarburg - and the bike performed effortlessly. In fact it felt much more comfortable than the Rocket 3 Touring but I guess that's down to less weight and better handling.
Cheers
Steve
