I still have it and love the handlebar configuration, with an added one inch riser/spacer. Of the 3 or 4 or more various handlebar or riser options available for the Thunderbird, which do you think would most closely replicate the configuration my America? I am 5 ft 10 inches tall, and 66 years old, so I want something comfortable. The stock handlebars on my new 2010 Triumph Thunderbird, that I bought from my son after he bought a new speed triple, seem to have my elbows uncomfortably high (hard on the wrists). I would like the handles farther back, and slanted more downward, to put less "twist" on my wrists. The Thunderbird is a wonderful bike, with all the things we old-timers wanted on our Americas/Speedmasters, and I am glad I finally got one.

I kept the stock bars, but rotated them back quite a ways. They didn't get much closer (maybe a cm or two), but they dropped down quite a bit, which seemed to alleviate the wrist stress for me. Certainly worth a try if you haven't done it yet, before you invest in new parts.

I will second that one !
I loosened the four Allen bolts holding the bars and slowly dripped them closer to the tank , making sure that the bars cleared the tank when on full lock.
The result is handlebars that are lower and I think , a bit closer to me.
A lot more comfortable and costs nothing to try

I am 185cm or 6ft and only a few yrs younger. I fitted Rivco Risers that lifted the bars about 25mm and bought them back about 30 to 35mm and at the same time I rolled the bars back just a little in the same alignment as the risers and it worked excellent for me. I found most things a bit of a compromise as you roll the bars back you then have to take the controls forward on the bars to optimise mirror position and coverage

(Re: tomv) | | | same here Tom, i came off an America and i loved the bars on that bike. i have the stock bars on my bird and i bought some riser spacers from fast eddy and rotated the bars back as everyone has said and find it fairly comfortable now.

Sounds like I can't go wrong that way. I have bought many things over the years from Fast Eddy, and have never been disappointed. He is a great guy. Thanks all, for your inputs.

(Re: tomv) | | | I bought the short riser extensions that Fast Eddy has on his site for the Thunderbird and really like the way it brings the handlebars back and up just the right amount for me. Also, you don't need any cable extensions. I also rotated mine down a little and with a little tweaking and the short extensions it fits me perfectly. I am also 5'10" and hit 66 years last December.

Also, Gerpa, those Rivco Risers are really beautiful on your bike. But as I will have a pouch on the inside of the windshield, and a compass, clock, and a GPS mount on the handlebars, I don't think anyone will notice the aluminum risers at the bottom, not actually being chrome. They might be fairly shiny/chome-like anyway. Thanks, --Tom

(Re: tomv) | | | When I got mine, I polished them with my 8 inch buffing wheel and a little aluminum compound and they look almost as good as chrome. I have some pictures at home that I'll try to post later this afternoon after my Dentist appointment.
