Everyone has had a close call with being wiped by a car out or nearly wiping someone else out.

The following article provides an insight into why it can happen and it certainly relates to Motorbikes as well as Push Bikes.

Have a read it is good "Food for Thought" and being "Aware" of what to expect.

Pass it on the more that are aware of it the better our chances are of surviving.

Very good
There is another technique that can be used at junctions if you run with the headlight on during the day. It's to move across the road away from the junction, this not only gives you more room but also prevents looming. Looming is another problem with the human eye as it's very difficult to calculate the range of a fixed light (riding in a straight line towards the hazard) but if it moves across your vision it is easier see as it is moving object. Again pilots used this in the last war to avoid being shot down during ground attack.

A bit more interesting riding information on the same issue from our "Learned English Friends". They even have a name for it now. The SMIDSY.

It also contains some more infor on how to avoid being hit.

I believe, although I could be wrong, that the Advanced Driver Course advises you to weave slightly in such situations if you have even the slightest suspicion that the car driver hasn't seen you.

As I say, I could be wrong; I have been wrong before. 1972, I think it was.

Yes that's it although we don't call it weaving, it's called moving across the carriageway to ensure our presence is registered, A posh way of saying weave about a bit so the bastard can see you
