Well had two good days with the Tbird, first I had been bothered by messy fuelling down low from new, but I found out there is a "12 Minute" ECM reset built in to the programming of the bike. So yesterday I did the reset and reprogram and lo and behold it runs so much cleaner down low you can really feel the change. This is because it was set for 91 RON fuel from factory, but I run 98 as a habit. Not perfect, especially under prolonged clutching in first gear such as when queued in traffic, but far better. The today I decided to do an extra oil drop at 5000 (not due until 10k), and I decided to change from the oil the shop was using to Castrol 4T. Oil dropped looking a bit dirty but not too bad and no lumps! After the oil change - I am grinning from ear to ear. The combined effect of the ECM change and the different oil has turned the Bird into a silky smooth, quiet, weapon. I am happier with all rev ranges, it is MUCH quieter down low, (prior the top end sounded tappety below 2000rpm), and you can really feel the slippery oil - really!

So, I hope she is happy, and rewards me well....

By the way prior OIL from new was Motul 3100 at around $52 per 4 litres, and I used Castrol 4t for $72 (before discounts..) Interestingly, there was a sticker right next to the oil filler neck, saying this bike runs on Castrol Oil, and yet the docs from shop clearly showed they prepared it and filled it at 1000 with Motul.....so maybe the factory boys are smarter.

Now as for the Kuryakyn ISO grips, helmet lock and throttle rocker - VERY VERY happy with grips and helmet lock, just warming to the throttle rocker. The grips instantly improved the feel of the bikes ergos, because I don't clench the grips so hard (standard grips too smooth), and they allow air to circulate under my sweaty palms.... Yep a good cheap improvement - shame they are shiny...couldn't get grey..

End of report!

That's a great report Michael and fantastic to read that your happier with the bike now. I will try the Castrol 4T now that I have read you are happy with it. I fitted ISO grips too and noticed an instant better feel straight up. All you need now is a load of chrome and red colouring and you'll be made. Hope to catch you up again soon mate.

Perrin37,
I'd recommend that you periodically open the throttle-side switch housing to inspect the throttle cable "keepers" for signs of wear. I had the ISO blacks, and they eventually snapped. Resulted in road-side repair, after going back home 2hrs (good samaritan) to grab the stock grip and 2hrs back to make the swap. The ISO's keeper "bumps" into a sharp edge of the switch housing's cable guide. I've since replaced the ISO with Arlen Ness' and haven't seen any signs of similar damage. I've got a thread with pics of what to look for.

Jamie, I had a close look at that when I fitted them as I had read your post prior. They look slightly different now, and I did not see any binding. I will however check, and I kept the original grip in my throwbag that I carry with me in case.. Wont help if it breaks the cable tho...

Feels good and happy so far...
