I picked her up last thursday and immediately went to the twisties near the dealer to run her in. what a change from the v-star!

all i can say is wow! I never really had a chance to do some real cornering on the numerous test rides i had done. she handles better than the vstar even though she weighs 100kgs more! unbelievable. then there are the brakes. and the engine. and the torque. and the SOUND!

i'm absolutely stoked with this bike - it does everything i wanted it to, including commuting to work (behaves itself quite nicely in traffic for a huge engine doesn't it?)

I had my wife on the back for the first time this morning and she instantly felt more comfortable on it than the vstar. More 2 up trips are definitely in store.

here are some pics of the last couple of days.

Bald hill lookout in the blazing sunshine

Tyres scrubbing in nicely

I've just clicked over 700km on it now and I can say for sure that this is exactly the bike I wanted. I can't believe i finally own it.

Cheers,
D.

It'll even get better as you tweak and learn. Congrats, you made the right choice.

Nice pick up Morz...... I hope Don at Trouper Lou looked after you despite his Red spewcati bloodlines

What area of Sydney are you located in, I'm 30 mins up the Putty Rd from Windsor...

Bussa is in the south west and is organising an Oberon Ride before Xmas, so keep an eye on the rides thread......

Cheers guys!

Smitty - no it was Adam, but i spoke to Don a few times. noticed his Ducati jacket too. he's rough as guts hey? Champion though. They did get me a good deal, for sure. turns out i knew Adam from a previous life when i was in bands. serendipity...

i'm in Strathfield, inner west. I haven't done the putty road yet, but i want to do it after the first service (booked in for next saturday). we should organise something!

ok cool, will do - nice roads out that way. have done some of them on the vstar but i imagine it will be a bit different on the 'bird

Hey Morz
Everyone gets off the bird grinning, As the boys have said, theres more to come,

My first week on, from hopping off a 99 VTR Firestorm, blew me away. Scraping pegs left and right through the Hawkesburry and Colo Valley, the bike Just hangs on and lets you give it more, as you stated.

It'll be good if you make the Oberon run, but if not we are always riding around the skirts of the Great Divide... Putty, Picton,Wisemans Ferry St Albans etc.

Cheers
Bussa

absolutely Bussa, I'm still in a bit of shock that i actually have the thing...

had my first ride in the rain today - the shitty kind where it sort of rains a bit and leaves the road slick - and the result was absolutely 'confidence inspiring' (it's a cliche term but in this case, true!). i never felt that comfortable in the rain on the vstar. this bike keeps on giving!

interesting about your transition from the firestorm. i have had guys respond on another forum populated mostly by sportsbike riders that the bird would be their first choice for a 'cruiser they could fang'. now i know why

all good re Oberon - i'd say it's more probable than not i'll be there. otherwise i would love to do the putty road sometime, never done it before, quite keen. i'm sure we'll meet up sooner rather than later.

Cheers,
D.

Nearly three years on and the grin is now fixed. Only the grin will get much bigger thanks to the BB fitting.

just a quick update, for anyone who is interested, this is what k-drive saddlebags look like mounted on easy brackets on the storm.

even though it looks like there's no clearance to the pipes, there is (a bit). have felt the bags after the work commute a few times and they should be fine...
