Ever wondered what was in a stock exhaust? A whole bunch of craziness. I decided I wanted to take the stock exhaust and tear them apart in a way that they might survive and be usable. Here's where I've gotten so far.

After removing what you've seen above with an angle grinder and a die grinder, I finally realized I would have to get out the heavy artillery if I was going to get anywhere. I broke out the cold cut saw that a friend of mine owns and cut it behind the baffle plate to get an idea of what else was in there, and this is what I found:

Here's what I learned, the plate farthest back past the three pipes and singe pipe that dumps in the center most chamber are held in by what appears to be a fiberglass plate. I'm working on removing that. I cut the end off at a 35 degree angle away from the bike hoping that I'll be able to remove the fiberglass plate and the three long pipes that run from one end to the other. I plan to remove what's in there, create my own baffle, and have a short and small chrome exhaust. The chrome plating on the outside of the exhaust is really top notch, and being able to create a moderately loud, but rumbling exhaust is the goal. I'll keep you posted as I make progress into this project.

Someone posted something previously about what was in his pipes, but that does not appear to be what I've found in these. Those three smaller pipes on the outside run almost the length of the pipe, and the larger small tube is just a hole at each end of the baffle plates. It really is a great curiosity as to why this is the design for the exhaust.

Wow... No wonder they're so heavy.

Somewhere there's an engineer who's cringing at the sight of you destroying countless months of design work.

rev, the 5th pic down is as far as i took mine but i used a jigsaw on the back end of the pipe as it is still stock length . to my ears they sound really good compared to the shorties. mine is decatted with the foran decat crossover pipe. i'll say this when you rev the engine numerous harley riders have said that sounds mean

currently on a slow Harley but will have another Triumph eventually
