I got my bike back today (I'll tell you later) and just now got everything installed...I'm trying to put Dizze's tune on it, but I can't find anything that will connect to my ODBII cable. WTF? I thought the interface was under the right side cover, but I checked them both...I know I've seen a picture on here pointing it out, but I just searched for 15 minutes and couldn't find it. I'm pissed. I just don't see how this can possibly be the right cable, but it's ODB II and was advertised as the one that works for our bikes. Either I'm a complete idiot or this is the wrong cable. I'm standing in the garage with the battery charging, the light fuses pulled, and the computer ready to roll. All I have to do is hook the feckin' thing up.

It's got the soft plastic cover over it?? Don't know how to otherwise describe it!

I'm just constantly amazed by this Forum thingy!!!!

Not because of the fact that I was able to answer this question, but the sheer fact that someone has a question and someone else can help them out, sometimes within minutes!!! But then again, I'm still impressed, nah, in awe, of things with ATMs and mobile phones!! I'm obviously easily impressed I suppose, but that's another story.

I am so grateful to those who are smart enough to give us this technology.

Okay, so the bike was in the shop for nearly a month. They said that they had another one there that was doing something similar so they were swapping parts and such to try to figure it out. Triumph was no help at all, apparently, which isn't hard to believe. The guy said that he had tried everything and was at a loss when he noticed that a map sensor hose was reversed or the left was going to the right or something like that...Honestly, I've forgotten at this point what exactly it was, but it had to do with a map sensor and a hose....anyway, he said he didn't think that it should matter, but one was marked intake and one was marked exhaust. They were backwards so he switched it back and rode it a bunch of miles. It fixed the problem. I road it around a bit and there's no sign of the issues it had before. He asked who had been in there messing with it and I told him that the only other person who's worked on it was the service department at my local shop (they used to service Triumph, but quit last year). He said they fucked me and after I thought about it, these issues did start up after the last time they had it. I didn't put two and two together until he said that. They only charged me $160 plus they did some recall stuff and gave me the new seat brackets.

I got home around 5:45 and couldn't wait so I started with a few minor things that needed to be done, like plug some screw holes that were open and starting to rust. Next I installed a slim black Storm luggage rack on the fender and pulled off the Hogslayers. I put on my new Shorties with homemade bypass elbows and started it up to see how it sounded. It sounded MUCH better. I was satisfied and couldn't wait to move on to tuning. I had already read all of the directions a few times while waiting for the bike so I was pretty confident, but I skimmed over it just in case before starting. I pulled off the seat, hooked up a charger, pulled the fuses for the lights, hooked up the computer, plugged in the ODBII (thanks again, Jimbo for the help) and got jack shit. I was pissed until I realized that I had the killswitch off. Once I flipped that on everything worked great. It took maybe 20 minutes to copy the map from the ECU and about 5 minutes to download DizzE's tune. I put everything back together, took it to the gas station and was blown away by the difference. I kept thinking to myself "it's like a freaking race car". It sounds MUCH better and is probably about 1.5 times the decibel level of Hogslayers until you open it up then it's a lot louder and racier. The overall sound at idle is a helluva lot deeper than with the Hogs, too. It feels like a brand new bike. It runs better, sounds better, and is much more fun. I'm riding it in to work tomorrow and will give it the full test.

On a side note, I wasn't sure what I would think about the stainless Short TORs since my old Hogslayers are black. Well, I think it turned out looking better than before. It seems like the exhaust evened out the colors because I had a few chrome bits up front and barely any at all in the back. The new exhaust looks better in general, but the color contrast really does it for me. I've attached a quick garage picture for you to chew on and plan to take some better ones in the sun tomorrow. This pic is kind of crappy quality in a crappy setting and doesn't do it justice.

Thanks again, DizzE, for doing the work and providing the tune for us less competent folks to use. I really do appreciate it and I think it's gonna make my bike time much more enjoyable.

Me too. I find it amazing that someone in downtown Rednecksville can be working on his bike, get a problem, go on the forum, and get an answer from Woolalogawoza on the other side of the planet - and its quicker than looking in the bloody manual. How cool is that. But this forum is pretty slick like that. I have been on other forums for info and waited days for an answer - mind you, the Bosch dishwasher forum is not the liveliest place to be.

It's certainly a great tool.

Other things I can't get my head around -

The cilcone chip.
Mobile phone coms.
How to get a space buggy on mars.

Still is one of my favorite bike on the forum (along with Cornerbangers) - a nice outside pic would be good.

Nice work.

I'm so easily impressed that I learned Basic (programing language) by myself, when I was 25 and coded up a weird music chord/scale random patterns.

I then found that is the simple ticket to my career. It's a main question and how I hire coders. "What did you code last night?"

Good going, Vicar!

And brackforce, I'm so impressed by your dealer, NOT.

Swapped MAP hoses is a giant, bolded warning in the SM.

Oh, well, for next time, huh? At least they didn't get the trade in, you Stalwart of Patience.

I just got mine fired up again from my own malfuctions (that I live with quite well) and that Snarl just made me
grin again....until I could not pull the clutch. My fault. I like the sound of that. Much better that WTF!!! did they do
to me, now ????? Did thy actually put my hoses on backwards, purposely???

Glad you love the tune. I'm the Love Doctor! No, no....the Ladies Man.

I took her out for a spin today and I have to say I'm happy as shit. I put her through just about every situation that has given me problems in the past plus some extra. We went through open straight roads, highways, twisties, dirt roads, city driving with plenty of stoplights, and even some gravel. I had absolutely NO issues whatsoever. This is by far the best the bike has ever run or sounded. It's a full 150% better in every aspect, especially enjoyment. It's been a while since I had that involuntary grin that's part of the Thunderbird experience, but today made up for the last few months of trouble. I actually had a few, though not serious, thoughts about getting another bike over the last year, but not anymore. I'm completely satisfied...so satisfied that I drove to two buddy's houses and pretty much forced them to take it around the block. One hadn't seen my bike in quite a while and as soon as I pulled up he said "that can't be the same exhaust you had before...it sounds mean!" Needless to say, they were impressed. The couple of hours of work after I got home last night was a wise decision...that way I had all day to ride and I was on the bike for at least 5 hours today. I also added Kuryakyn end weights to go with my ISO grips and the ride is much more comfortable now. You wouldn't think that those Triumph end weights do as much as they do, but they make a big difference. Also, I had no experience with the factory silencers since I've had Hogslayers since day 1. I do remember, though, what a difference BC Bombers made on my America a couple of years ago. The Shorties kill the Hogslayers as much as Bombers killed factory silencers, if not more. I'll never go back to Hogslayers and I got a good deal on new TORS off eBay for about 1/3 the price.

I'd say I'm 99% finished with the bike. I love everything about it now. I'm happy with all of my mods. I even like the stainless Shorties with my blacked out stuff. The remaining 1%, however is the heat shields. I'm considering getting them powder coated black, but leaving the mufflers as is so that it's a better transition from the black headers to the shiny look. That's purely cosmetic, though, and it can wait. I'm not gonna obsess about future projects or worry about minor changes at this point...I'm just gonna enjoy the ride.

brackforce,
I'm sure this was discussed in another thread, but what tank emblems did you put on your bike? They look great, do you have a part #?

Those are Rocket III tank badges. I stole the idea from Thatch, who did the same before he got his custom paint job. Sorry, I don't have the part number. I told the parts department at my dealership what I wanted and described the badge to them since there are a few Rocket badges to choose from. If you need the part number you might be able to find it in one of Thatch's old threads discussing the badge swap (that might be what the thread was called even) and I'll look through whatever paperwork I can find to see if I have it somewhere.

Looking good Brack.

Xfarmer, the badges are from the Rocket III Roadster (the other rocket models have different badges) and the Triumph part numbers are PFKL1211170 and PFKL1211169. You can also get them from Bike Bandit here Link for a bit over $35 each. High price for plastic bits, but the impact the swap makes on the bike is worth many times the money.

Haha. No problem, Xfarmer. Discussion is what the forum is for, besides, I already hijacked my own thread because the original reason for posting was irrelevant within minutes. These types of comments actually bring issues up that haven't been discussed in a while and introduce people to ideas they missed. I'm glad you liked the badges and are planning to make the switch!
