| Posted : 02 Aug 2012 - 23:42 Post title : Easy Brackets for quick release backrest bolts | | A few members have questions regarding the hardware needed to install Easy Brackets with a quick release backrest. If you already have a backrest, you should buy the easy brackets with longer bolts, that are meant to allow for the backrest spool. This set up will use the 2 forward fender bolts, instead of the rear 2 for the non-backrest option. I don't know the difference in the length of the bolts between the 2 kits, but I believe that is the main difference. If you already have the non-backrest hardware, I would think that you could just buy the proper length bolts, and remount to the forward bolt positions. Obviously, you would have to drill new holes in the saddlebags.
If anyone knows of other differences between the 2 kits, that would be very helpful.

Since you have a back rest, I tried to take mine off and it wouldn't budge. It was unlocked, I pulled the two levers back and lifted, but no movement. Is there a trick to it?

When I fitted them I turned one of the domed washers around as - logically !! - I asssumed having the 2 flat sides of the washer and bobbin touching would be the way to go.. Then spent ages trying to get the brackets to fit !!!
Did the other side with the domed washer and domed bobbin in a sort of "flat/domed/flat/domed" sequence......bloody brackets glided on !!!!!
The bags & brackets fit like a glove and the cissy-bar needs a bit of pressure to drop it on and off but not a huge amount.

You need to lift by the backrest and sort of push forward as though you are pivoting the backrest forward on the mounts

| Posted : 04 Aug 2012 - 17:29 Post title : Re: Easy Brackets for quick release backrest bolts (Re: Dougl) | | The quick release has two pull back locks on either side of the backrest that must be moved to the rear to release them. I pull them both back at the same time and this puts my chest against the rear of the pad. I just push forward with my chest while pulling back on the releases and it comes right off.
While waiting to work on the fitment of the easy brackets I remembered that when I bought the quick release back rest from Triumph it came with a template / tool to adjust the bolts once they had been loosened (see picture).
After about 15 minutes of looking through my parts box I found the tool and placed it on the bolts with the easy bracket mounting posts installed. As you can see from the picture, the bolts were not aligned properly. I loosened the front bolt and wiggled the tool down until it would go on and off easily (third picture) and guess what, the easy brackets went on so smoothly that at first I didn't think that it seated in the slot properly.
It's hard to believe that this small of an adjustment would mean so much but it really did fix my problem.
The easy brackets go on and come off as they were intended. WOW, what a difference.
