Just curious if any of my fellow Triumph Thunderbird kool-aid drinkers use a throttle lock of any sort. I just attempted to put the lock that i had my my 08 Kawa Vulcan on the T-Bird but am unable to thanks to the starter/info/emergency shut off assembly having some sort of anchor that would allow it to move away from the grip to mount the tension grommet.

I put an order in for the "Go Cruise" throttle control Link . For $22 shipped I cant really go wrong if it doesn't work or I dont like it for any reason.

I only use it on the longer trips when I want to give the throttle hand a bit of a rest, and the next coming up for me is the 400 mile jaunt to Sturgis from Sioux Falls beginning a week from today.

I would actually think about investing in to an actual cruise control (I have yet to find one available for the T-Bird). My cousin has it on his bike and swears by it, but he paid his left nut, right big toe, and a part of his soul for it.

I notice when I arrive at a typical rally all of the HD riders bow down down out of respect. My friend (an HD rider) says that I'm mistaken and that the HD guys are bending over to pick up rocks to throw at me. Thankfully, I have yet to be hit by a rock and if need be I can out run them all.

An appropriately sized rubber o-ring works fine for me.

Same here. Been using a BrakeAway for years. Expensive but you get what you pay for. This piece is very well made and is the only one that will release when you apply the front brake.

I've used the Go Cruise for about 6 months and never had a problem. Extremely quit to fit (a few seconds) and a cinch to use.

Not even the TB is perfect . . . one would have thoutgh that by definition a cruiser would have a throttle lock, obviously not.
The large O-ring system is not a bad idea, but in the end I opted for the Kaoko Throttle Lock Cruise Control, that works very well for me.

I had tried a number of throttle lock/assists for the Thunderbird from moderate expensive to the O Ring, when GoCrusie came out I was impressed with what I saw and ordered some up and put them to the test...they work the BEST over everything I have tried and the price can not be beat (except by an O Ring) but I like it better than the O Ring and you can't hang a ball cap on and O Ring when you leave the bike!

They come with a Year warranty if they break and they can if you get too aggressive with taking them off in the cold or stretch them too hard. For those that have them, if they start slipping just wash them off and the grip and it ill be like new.

Just curious how those of you who are using an O-ring are getting the job done? Where are you putting the O-ring, inside or outside edge of the grip?

Placed on the "outside", (right), end of the grip. Over the gap between the throttle grip and bar end. If it is the correct size, it will not settle into the gap, and one can still roll on or off the throttle with little difficulty. The current one in use is a size #43, 1 3/8" x 1 1/8" and works well enough. The previous one was a little thicker and gripped a bit firmer, but it gave up the ghost soon after last year's x-country trip.

Do you have the Breakaway on the standard grips or on the KY ISO grips?

The BrakeAway will only work if you have the ISO grips. If you do, it's an easy addition. The BrakeAway is made to fit certain size grips and not really per bike.

Same thing. I took the Throttlemeister off of my Rocket III and it fit the TBird perfectly. I like it because you can just put enough friction on it to hold the throttle but still turn it higher or lower easily. And, it's a real quality piece that looks great on the bar ends.

Hello Ezyrider
I already have a Kayko Throttle Lock fitted to My TBird. the reason I am asking the question re standard grips is that Contary to what you are saying the ISO grip install is no so stright forward.

See the Cruiser Customising You Tube Video.

I don't know what part number they used but I didn't have all that trouble!! If you go to the BrakeAway page, then pick the one to fit the Rocket, you will see at the bottom of that page that there is a part number to fit the ISO grips. I think the guys on Cruiser Custom make it look way more difficult then it is.

Status report on the Go Cruise:

I just returned from the Sturgis adventure with 800 miles over straight highways and 400 miles up in the Black Hills. I'm impressed with the Go Cruise, other than looking odd to the casual observer or as an eye sore to the diehards, it held the throttle well enough to keep the bike going without much slippage at all. The once/twice that it did slip I simply squeezed the ring around the throttle grip a wee bit and it help. For $20 I will not complain.

I'd recommend the part to others, but just be prepared to give the ring a squeeze if need be. Remember, the key is $20 and simplicity.
