| Posted : 20 Jul 2012 - 20:42 Post title : RIVCO Floorboards (vs Triumph Floorboards) | | The jury is still out on these. Here is my story-
After comparing the floorboards that Triumph offers to the only other option (RIVCO), I decided to try and save $250+ and go with the RIVCO brand floorboards (the basic style, not the upgraded chrome). I paid $240 shipped to my door.
First impressions: they sit higher than the stock pegs which is not favorable, imo. This can be attributed to 2 things I believe. First, with the pegs the heel of the boot is able to rest below where it does compared to floorboards. The foot sits flat on the board where as on the peg it is sitting at a steeper angle. I've found that I can still hang my heel of the rear of the board so that eventually is a trait that I can get used to. The second thing is that to the naked eye it does appear that the plane of the floorboard is in fact higher than the plane of the peg. In turn the "fulcrum" of where the foot rests is higher on the floorboards than on the pegs.
I think the thing that bugs me most about these floorboards is that the left side actually slants down to the side. That is caused by a sub-par tolerance when they were manufactured, the hinge is not sitting flush (for lack of better terms) where it needs to be so in turn the hinge swings too low. The left floorboard certainly does not fit flush like the right side (keeping in mind the 15° slant upwards to the front for comfort). The mounting blocks that fit in to the brackets on the bike are nice and tight, no issues there. RIVCO did right in that category.
Even if I didnt have the issue with the left floorboard I'm considering sending these back. However, I'm really hoping someone can measure the height of the Triumph floorboards from the ground while the bike is standing upright (w/o a rider in the seat). If the Triumph boards are lower enough to be more comfortable I will gladly fork over the extra $$$ for the kit (idiotic move Triumph!) and the floorboards. Is anyone willing to measure the height from the ground to the top of the Triumph floorboards??? Thanks a many!

I never measured the footpegs, but I believe this to be higher than the pegs, although I'm not sure how much.
I've been thinking of going back to the stock pegs and then installing the RIVCOs, as I'm finding the Triumph boards to be too far back which is causing my right knee and hip some problems on longer rides, I think the biggest issue is the huge 70's Buick style brake pedal taking up space where I'd really like my right foot to be.
Earlier this week I hacked off an inch and a bit from the pedal and replaced the cover with one from a late-model Yamaha/Star bike. This has given my right leg much more room to stretch out, also looks a helluva lot better too, added bonus. Hoping this solves the problem entirely, but I won't know until I've had a chance to go for a longer run this weekend.
Meanwhile, any chance you can post a couple pictures of each side of your bike with the RIVCOs on before you yard them off? If my quick fix doesn't do the trick fully, I'm thinking of going back to the stock pegs setup and getting the RIVCOs, although I'm not too happy reading about your left side board slanting as you describe it.

| Posted : 21 Jul 2012 - 01:18 Post title : Re: RIVCO Floorboards (vs Triumph Floorboards) (Re: Zeek) | | As usually with my situations... I'm a minute late and a few cents short. I just sent the RIVCO boards back to them.
HOWEVER.... if you are going to sell your Triumph floorboards I will be happy to buy them from you. If you need Triumph pegs I can sell/swap them in a trade to you for your floorboards. If not, I will buy your boards outright.
I didnt measure the distance from the RIVCO boards to the floor so I can not tell you what the actual height is compared to the Triumph boards. However, I did find multiple pictures to compare the Triumph and RIVCO boards and based on the proximity of the shift lever pivot point the Triumph boards are in fact lower than the RIVCO boards. The RIVCO boards were between the center and top of the shift selector, and the Triumph boards appear to be below the pivot point. It can sort of be seen here:
Notice the first 2 pics-

I decided that regardless of which route I was going to go I was not going to settle on having that left floorboard slant downward to the left. I would have been willing to try them out for a longer period of time if both boards would have been squared up. RIVCO (at least so far) has been good with the customer service, and they offered to send another set out but for the time being I will explore other options.
Are there any other options that the Triumph and RIVCO brands???

I'm going to give my current solution a try first before I make any other decisions. I've still got my stock pegs and bits kicking around so I don't need anything in order to put it back stock. However, I'm not sure I'd want to sell my floorboards... when cutting down the brake pedal I "oops'd" and put a little love nick in the very front of the brake side board. Doesn't bother me (well, not entirely true, but y'know, you spins the wheel & you takes your chances sometimes), but I couldn't in good conscience sell them in damaged condition.

They were quick on the draw and refunded by cc quick enough to satisfy this customer.
I had sent back the T-bird rider floor boards (read above) and they accepted my reason (slanted left board and they sit too high), and didnt charge me a restocking fee like they supposedly could have.
I will certainly do business with them again. No worries though... I will be checking out a few other popular vendors that seem to get mentioned from time to timeddy.
Does anyone have any brand of floorboards they can suggest? Currently, it appears as if I will be spending the $$$ on Triumph boards because they sit a wee bit lower than the RIVCO boards (albeit having to spend another $180 for the &%#@* kit).

I ordered them from Rivco ( in the USA _ I am in Australia ) and from the time they were sent , it took 5 days ! ( before some muppet starts on about local supply , I tried that only to be told 3 weeks )
Quality is pretty good _ easy to fit and COMFORTABLE . Anyone considering the Triumph V Rivco floorboards should have a look _ save $$$ , no relocation of brake or shifter , although I did adjust my shifter one notch and it actually shifts better than the original position.
My pillion says she has to get used to the board being out further than the peg ( to allow board to fold up ) but likes the xtra comfort and the finish looks awesome _
