I have the avon storm ultra 2 on the back and at 10000km I think I might get the same again. I only got 10000km all up out of the metzeler. I have the cobra on the front and am happy with the wear and the "sticky" factor. Living in Nth Qld I need reliability in the Wet season and the avon has given that to me in spades (plus longer life). I like to give my bike a push and most of the long kms are done with the missus on the back. Metzeler was good but avon is great!

are you saying that you might get 20000km out of your avon on the rear, fuck me i must be doing something terribly wrong with my bike
i have just put a new avon on the rear and the last one only lasted 11000km and it was illegal when i took it off.
now saying that it has lasted 4000km longer than the metzler so no complaints with the tyre.

Hi guys ! new to this but just joined to talk about tyres rear, firstly the Metzler is rubbish my last one only lasted 4600K's and was gone 800k's before that and the bike shop said only Metzler is the only manufacture that make that size with strong enough walls and won't recomend any other tyre ..The history goes original 7000k's first replacement 6000k's second replacement 4600k's and it went flat due to the metal bands showing . Wornout and flat 50k's from the nearest town and 1500k's from home and only one Harley shop is sight , what do i do ? wait three days for another Metz or try the Harley Dunlop 200x55 the boys won't wait so here we go . What a great tyre the only problem is my speedo and mileage is not reading true but hope i can get help to recalibrate . The Harley guys get 12 to 15000k's out of the Dunlop so i suppose i will be waiting a little while to look for something else.

Have you checked your speed on anything? I fitted the Commander 11 its 200/55/17 and the speedo is now reading the correct speed according to my Zumo.
The Metz was out by about 10%

i checked the speed against a mate's Fatboy and at his $130 mine shows $120 at his $103 mine 98 and on one of those odomiter checkers on the freeway at the end of 5k's my read was just over 4.7k's so i think about 50mtrs in each klm

hey Wal ,the last run was a lot of long strait flat stuff so the middle of the Metz was cactus . across the Hay plain down trough Vic to SA and up to Broken Hill across to Wilcania and Cobar up to Bourke and got the softie just out of Moree the guy at the bike shop did say the road surface out there is more abrasive and the heat and high speed doesn't help either.

Welcome to the forum Porpy, by law all speedos must over read which means by the time you get a ticket you are definatly speeding. When you fit a 55 profile tye you take out some of the error in the system and get closer to the actual speed you are doing, you can leave it knowing your harley mate is'nt going faster than you, your speedo is more accurate. Or adjust it in software using tunecu.

Ya don't have to run the factory tire per the stealer's/factories recommendation.[Those tires are put out for bid with low bidder getting the contract] The stealers tell ya that so they can sell ya what they have in the tire rack, and for premium money. As long as it's the same size or close to it,it'll work.So far,the best tire I've run on the rear is the Dunlop American Elite,200/55R/17,which happens to be what the HD's are using] and lasted me over 12,000 miles. At present,I have a Bridgestone Exedra,190/60R/17 on the rear,[which has now been over 1500 miles with no problems] and a CommanderII in stock for when that one wears out.I will stay with the tire that gives the best mileage as all of em handle just fine.Dave!!!

I'm using Bridgestone exedras front and rear standard sizes . Tried a few different makes I'll be sticking ( hopefully no sliding ) with the bridgies they are beautifully made nice and round , easy to balance etc .

You can buy Dunlops,or any tire for that matter and for less money, on line.I got mine from Jake Wilson.I think I paid alittle over a buck and a half for a 200/55R/17 American Elite. But it doesn't have the HD logo plastered all over it.Now I realize that's what ya really want,RIGHT??? Dave!!!
