Whilst I've grown to like the tank mounted clocks, seperate mounted instruments would be more practical i.e. tank bag for touring.

I've sourced a set of Rocket 3 gauges. Anyone ideas on how compatible they might be. After all the Rocket 3 has both tank and yoke mounted gauges.

Regards

My guess... not compatible at all unless they're off of a R3 Tourer. The T-Bird and the R3 Tourer are the only two (right now) with the CanBus data system. You would not be able to grab just the speed or RPM (or any other thing for the idiot lights) because of it.

its possible the R3T clocks may work but unlikely, Triumph have CAN and the ECU has been coded to specifically look for the fitted ones.

If I remember right, the tank is not smooth under the stock cluster. If you remove the stock instrument cluster in favor of mounted instruments, what do you plan to do with the resulting open spot on the tank?

How much do you think a new tank - made to spec. - would cost?

Just thinking/wondering out loud here - but isn't the fuel pump IN the tank?!?

If it looks good (cock set-up), then a nice tailored made tank - flat sides - could look good!

For me, the stock tank is one of the best features of the bike. In fact, now that I have the Tbird, the tanks on all other cruisers don't look right anymore (they have tank envy).

If I was going to do this project, I likely see if I could find a metal guy to weld in a piece, smooth it out and repaint the tank.

I believe it is the RAASK website that shows a kit you can buy, that moves the existing instrument cluster to the bars, then includes a chrome disc to refill the hole in the chrome fitting whre the cluster comes out. the kit looks pretty easy to move, and does not redo any elctricals.

check out the RASK website.

100% agree ! I am stuck in Central Florida, no Triumph dealer in the area to be found. So on a rainy cold day like there are plenty I went to look at Harley's. I could not believe how tiny the tank is on these bike's. I felt exactly like you do. I never thought they looked 'off' before. The Triumph Thunderbird is truly a masterstroke in design.
