You do know that it's NOT a cat eliminator, but a set of pipes that eliminates the cat, right? Just wanna make sure you know that. That is, unless they recently decided to sell cat bypass seperately w/o pips. i have heard nothing about that in any case. Anyways, i don't know of anyone who's gotten them yet, but this page should point you in the right direction...

Here is fresh information on Staintune US as of today Feb 2nd

The Aus Dollar is high against the US Dollar and has been tough on the US Importer closing margins and they will not be operating through the dealer network but direct (Calmoto) with the customer. Shari at Calmoto is a wonderful lady whom I have dealt with on a number of occasions with Staintunes for Bonnies. Bad news for the Thunderbird 1600 is they are still not available in the US as of today.

Havent heard of Staintune doing a Cat Eliminator but Foran do one but @ $270 not cheap
decided to build my own out of stainless cost $45
If you build your own dont forget to put in a equalizer pipe in otherwise she'll pop and fart like no
tommorow on the overrun

You can buy the eliminator separately. It's $399 US.

Ahhh, so they DID make one. From reports the bike is very loud that way, but i wonder what the result would be using stock pipes.

Seems motorists on this forum don t know the purpose of a Catalyst. Don t we have enough problems
with the environment aktivists (they call them Green), officials, etc. why give them excuses for further
limitations of our Hobby. In Finland we already pay 100 percent tax for this pleasure and just wait, they will
come one day also to your home State the same goes for over taxed gasoline which is in my
opinion almost free of charge in the USA still today. If I raise a question about the taxes they always refer
to the environment issue. So try to keep your bikes street legal the same goes for loud pipes. The more
we teas them the more they try to restrain or limit or doings. Thats all folks

as i have said before, i have done loads of testing and found that the thunderbird cat is very high flowing, it's very large for a bike, i still believe you wont get much more performance with out it, in fact i can guarantee you even if you gain a few ponies at top end will loose some torque bottom end due to the drop in back pressure, apart from a louder setup i would not worry about the cat.

Here's a thought. Let's stop letting the tree huggers decide what we can and can't do. Here in the USA we used to enjoy a thing called FREEDOM. It's time to take it back .

I agree that there is probably not much to be gained by removing the cat, power wise. I would like a different sound, though. I going to experiment a little bit and I will post a video of the results. I'll try cat only, cat with long TORs, no cat with stock and no cat with TORs. I might try gutting the stock pipes and running the open megaphone with the cat.

Ive got the whole system on my bike and it sounds great. The good thing about it is when it idles and the cops check it with the meter and it passess. It is only really loud if you really rev the motor hard. Slow takeoffs it is not loud at all. My local dealer has the cat eliminator sold seperately for 245au i think. they are JCS motercycles in perth western australia. They have a website but i suggest you ring them. Im sure they would send you one.

I had a set of bypass pipes made when I got my TORs and they made the system extreamly load. I ran the bike with cat in place and without. No noticable difference in power, just noise. I put my cat back in and I very happy with the sound and power, and I'm still running a little greener. If anybody wants a set of bypass pipes without an H pipe I can get a set made of non stainless pipes to you for $35 plus shipping.

The Thunderbird has a equaliser pipe fitted to the exhaust system as standard ,about 12 inches forward of the cat box ,just in front of the oil drain plug.The need to fit another one when you remove the cat and put the bypass pipes in is just a clever bit of marketing,I have never seen a bike that needs two equaliser cross pipes fitted.;
The popping and backfiring is caused by the lean mixture,Tuneboy or PC are the only people who can remap the bike, and of course Triumph can also if they produce another tune map.
I went down this track some months back and I finally put the cat box back on along with my own pipes that I designed and built.
So ...Keep your money in your pants pocket ,you dont need two cross over pipes,
Cheers.

You are right. Thats why the BC pipes have no crossover. I bought a piece of bent conduit at Home Depot for about five bucks. I cut it in half and each piece is the perfect length with the correct bend. Couldn't have been easier if I'd gone to Staple's.

How,s it goin boys? I rode a demo bird today with the staintune exhaust on it and I did not like the sound at all. It seemed too sharp a noise and reminded me of my 600 single dirt bike. I will not be purchasing this system. Only my humble opinion but the only one that really matters to me. Next on the list is to experience the Razorbacks first hand. If they do not impress me enough to spend the extra cash I will default to the long Tors. I have already bypassed the cat and I need to retain that throaty sound that this beast has inside her.
Cheers Ian

Gday Boily.

Im in perth and was very much leaning towards the staintunes.

Where did you get to ride it? I find most of the aftermarket pipes are sharp, especially the razorbacks, they are loud
but quite harsh..

The reason I was leaning towards the staintunes was the sound of them on the youtube clip. Have you heard that? If so is it a fair representation of the pipes? I thought the sound on there was quite deep with a nice lil rumble to 'em.

Also does anyone on the forum with staintunes on their bird live in Perth? Dying to hear them before I put down any coin to the dealer.
(Especially after reading this!)

Cheers one and all

Sean
