bought them both prior to ever riding them, so the first impression will be after decision made again.
from a Horse power to weight ratio, the 98 TBS beats my other bike: the 2001 Bonnie.
the bonnie and the 1600 are about the same ratio. .12-.13 HP per pound.
the 98 TBS is .16 hp/pound.
of course, adding all the rails, bars, chrome, and footboards, has added, IMHO at least 100 pounds to the 1600, so there is the justification for the 1700 Kit!!
just to keep in balance...

(Re: teebird) | | HP is only 1/2 the story, or to some people's thinking, less than 1/2. Torque is king, and in that regard the 1600 is in a completely other category. Not only does it have worlds more, but it peaks at damn near idle! (ok, slight exaggeration, but not by much) Thats where the huge difference is.

I will be very interested in your review of the 98 TBS and 2010 TB Twin. I have an 04 TBS and purchased the new TB twin this past July. I wont give you my opinion at this time other than they are very different and I love them both. Daz has already hit a big difference you will experience going from the 885 Triple to a 1600cc Twin.
In my opinion being able to have both TBs is a great opportunity.

(Re: teebird) | | I've been looking into getting a TBS as a compliment to the Raven. (the yellow on black being one of my favorites). I think they are a great compliment bike. I'm not sure how you will compare them though since they are such strikingly different rides. The torque of the big bird will create a much different launch experience, the 'chuckability' of the sport makes it's power a whole different experience. I'm jealous of the combination.
You're power to weigh ratio figures got me thinking though. With the weight loss measures I've made on the bike and the new BB kit, not including any gains from my exhaust puts me at .15 hp/pound , not bad at all. Torque per pound is even better with my Raven putting out .16 lbs per lbs of bike and the TBS putting out .10 lbs per pound of bike. Of course all of these figures are without my big ass on the bike so...
I look forward to your write ups Tee. Good purchase.

This looks like a great deal for anyone interested in a TBS...
I kinda ran this past the boss to see if I could get it past her and she made it clear that I need to stop...
She feels that three Triumphs are enough.....
Hard to argue that point....
For now anyway...

I serously considered how in the world I could justify to myself let alone (the other one), having TWO identical motorbikes...
went to the Denver motorcycle swap/show today.
there was a 1969 tr6, IIRC, for 4900.... and then I recalled a rule of mine:
Never buy another, before you have seen the last one,,,, works for a lot of things. Tee

if you remember this easy way to look at it....
rocket 3 vs hayabusa...
Rocket oodles more torque lower down..hayabusa oodles more HP but higher up...
Results 0-60mph drag start rocket wins...
once you go over 60 or tbh once you are moving in the busa's rev range so pretty much 40+ etc you get left for dead due to the lack of HP...my take on it is massive torque low down means you are quickest away from a standing start and also most road riding you can catch most sports bikes out unless they are deliberatly riding at 6k+ rpm all the time.
hope that makes some sense :-)
