Was looking for somewhere to put the standard plastic rego label holder. Not many spots on the storm save for off the number plate or the plate holder if ya have one fitted. Ugly and they stick out like tits on a bull so I thought I might check out the tube type label holders,(legal in NSW but not QLD). Finally found one that looked the goods in a local bike shop after spending some time trawling the net. Made by Proline and it set me back $39 which is on the high end but it's good quality. Comes with another alternate bracket, attaching stainless screws and nyloc nuts, 2 x allen keys, shatter proof glass tube and a piece of clear plastic to stick ya label on to roll up and shove in the tube. The tube is sealed with o rings and the glass rotates so you can sight the full label details.
All good! Now for somewhere to fasten it! Was checking out the reflector under the number plate light and noticed it was loose and had been rubbing on the plate holder. The two fastening pins are plastic and held on by those crap put em on once and you have to destroy them to get them off metal washers. The attempted fix resulted in one shot reflector that needed removing as I had destroyed one of the pins. The only plus was I now had a place to mount the label holder. Only drama being the tube sits under the number plate light. The light still illuminates the plate at night ok but is obviously partially blocked by the tube. Any thoughts about the legality as I don't need unwanted attention from the plod?
Looks the goods though.

Went through the same thing and bought the Rideline which is similar.
Bought a black number plate surround from Supercheap for $15 and mounted the rego tube underneath, very happy.
I checked the legality and it seems a bit of a grey area but as the tube turns you can read all you need to. The copper would have to be a p---- to go you for it and it could be challenged given the way that law reads in Victoria and we are the nanny state.

Heated grips, heated seats, electric screen...etc...etc..

Not so worried bout the legality of the tube but more the positioning of it. As it sits directly below the plate light it does partially block the light but it still lights the plate at night.
Happy with the fit though as no drilling was required and it's out the way.

Well Gents
The Tube Holder is not good in QLD. The little Darlings in the "Fancy Coloured Cars" dont like them. however here is another option.

32mm Rubberised Hydraulic Hose Clamp and a Stainless bolt hold it just fine.

Mate you should probably check the reflector being blanked out, I think they are a requirement, dumb as it may appear.

Melonhead,

The boys in blue will book you not having a reflector. I know it sounds stupid but they have been visiting "the Pie In The Sky"on a regular basis and issuing notices if you don't have a rear reflector.

you would think the assholes in blue would have better things to do than bust people for no reflector and going to donut king
they hide on the old road alot just to catch 1 or 2 bikes speeding.
they should be on the f3 every day they would be flat out and making a fortune

Hey peoples.....done some research and it appears a rear facing reflector is a must. Did have a look at a new R3 roadster though and it did not have one fitted? Only bike I have noticed without one fitted though.

Check out this. Found in NSW RTA website.

Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2007

Division 14Reflectors generally

117 General requirements for reflector
(1) A reflector fitted to a vehicle must show a red, yellow or white reflection of light when light is projected directly onto the reflector at night by a low-beam headlight that:
(a) is 45 metres from the reflector, and
(b) complies with this Schedule.
(2) The reflection must be clearly visible from the position of the headlight.
(3) A reflector may be in the form of reflecting sheeting or tape or other efficient reflecting material.

Division 15Rear reflectors
118 Rear reflectors
(1) A motor vehicle with 4 or more wheels, and a trailer, must have a rear-facing red reflector towards each side of its rear.
(2) A motor bike, a sidecar attached to a motor bike, and a motor trike, must have a rear-facing red reflector.
(3) The centre of each reflector must be:
(a) at the same height above ground level, and
(b) not over 1.5 metres above ground level.
(4) However, subclause (3) does not apply to a reflector fitted to a sidecar attached to a motor bike.
(5) A reflector fitted to a motor vehicle with 4 or more wheels, or a trailer, must not be over 400 millimetres from the nearer side of the vehicle.
(6) A vehicle fitted with rear-facing red reflectors in accordance with subclause (1) or (2) may be fitted with additional red reflectors at any height above ground level or at any distance from the side of the vehicle.
