Anyone using Bluetooth headsets to talk to your passenger? I'm going to star looking now. Kind've like the scala teamset. I see them on eBay for $135.

I've been using the Sena smh10. Love it. They just released the smh5
Listen to iPhone music through the Bluetooth connection. Large button controls for gloves

Only negative thing is the wife now talks to me when riding two up..

Ahhhh how I miss the good old days. Sigh.

Man I LOVE my scala G4. I use it every time I ride. Rider to rider works great, streaming Bluetooth music from my phone works great, and telephone works so well that people on the other end never even know I'm on the bike. The new G9 is coming out pretty much right now and has lots of upgraded features. I have no reservations recommending it. Just my opinion.

I use the Scala G4 as well, pretty reliable but sometimes the VOX (voice operated connection) is a bit temperamental. I did have to send back one of the units for repair under warranty, it wouldn't turn off. Sound is clear and the bluetooth function works well. Answered my first phone call on the ride down to Tumby and the caller couldn't believe that I was on my bike travelling at 110k and way out in the country.

+1 on the Scala. Works great when it works. One of mine has found its way backc to be repaired as well.

I have the scala g4 too. It's a good bit of gear but online prices vary greatly!

We use the Sena SMH10. Had them for four years. Can't say enough good about them. Will purchase these again should they wear out.
Listen to iPhone music through the Bluetooth connection (NO WIRES). Large button controls for gloves, quite a long talk time, and can be used with bluetooth and gps i think (I haven't had experience with the gps part though). FM radio works better than Scala's although that's not the priority for me. Speakers are larger than Scala and to me provide much better sound when listening to music. Plenty of volume when wearing shorty helmet.

Owned the Scala for a couple of years and just didn't like not being able to use the controls with gloves. Kinda hard to push the buttons even when not wearing gloves.

Helmet mounting is easy for both.

I would recommend the SMH10. But, make sure when you order that you get the firmware upgradable set. (they have a usb port on the side) Many people are selling the older models cheaper so you think you're getting the latest and greatest but your not. Make sure what you are getting.

Bought the Sena SMH5 dual pack on line yesterday so will get it next week. (A$250.00)
Looks the goods & gets very good reviews.
Have resisted having any communication from the back but after the last 4 day ride have changed my mind.

Heated grips, heated seats, electric screen...etc...etc..

One thing about the scala is the claimed 1 km distance. I would have to say that this would only be in a straight line and ideal conditions, and a big IF. Get into hilly territory and it is cut down to much shorter distances which is understandable.

Don't know anything about the SMH stuff. The VOX on my scala got much better after I updated the firmware and I'm sure that is completely debugged for the new G9. I'll agree on the distance thing, but it's never really been an issue for me. When my wife and I ride together we are never too far apart, but mainly I use it solo most of the time. I did have to send a headset back for warranty repair but I think it was mostly due to my fault removing the speaker over and over again to get it comfortable in the helmet. I just didn't do it right but I've since worked it out and no probs. no probs with the warranty dept either. I don't have problems with the buttons even with full fingered winter gloves so can't really see the issue there. The G9 has some nice new features including the ability to connect up to 8 other riders with easy "bump" pairing. To each their own and this is only my opinion from my experience. I like that when I'm out solo I can listen to tunes wirelessly, mute it at any time, my wife can contact me by phone and I know when I get a text. It even plays your ringtone so if it isn't someone I want to talk to I know to ignore the call. How it compares to the SMH stuff I have no idea.

Using the Teamset - works really well, phone, sat nav, voice etc all fine. Charge lasts over a full days riding too.

We have an Interphone F5. Works well for comms with the pillion, with the iphone and bike to bike. The inbuilt FM radio is a bit crap though. Battery easily lasts all day and both units can be charged at the same time with the supplied charger.

I use the SENA headsets I have to say they have been awesome . They last upto 4 days with careful management ( that is turning them off at rest stops ) and have run my GPS and iPhone thru them as well . After using the cheap shitty ones from ebay that gave out when they got wet , the extra $ are worth it ... plus they stop my wife from hitting me when I wind on that right wrist

Based on cost, I was looking at the Scala Teamset. Eight, you would recommend them? I wish I had the cash for a $400 set of comms, but sadly I don't and I saw the teamset for under $200 on eBay.

I moved up from a "plug-in" Starcom, which gave 2 years of service then became unreliable - my channel stopped working on holiday in Ireland, which meant I could only listen to Mrs. Ted for 10 days. I bought the Scala Teamset Pro 3 years ago, it was the only rated Bluetooth device around at the time. It's worked faultlessly for the last 3 years.

It wont match up with my iPhone but that's the fault of the iPhone, not Scala, and I don't want to hear my phone whilst riding anyway. It matched up with my recently purchased Garmin instantly. I'd buy another one.

Pulled the trigger on the teamset, $139 new in box on eBay. Seems like a good price. I will let you know my thoughts when it arrives. Thanks for all of your input!

Had to buy the wife a new helmet, so yet to try the intercom, but for my single needs, it works very well. I wish the speakers had a little more bass when the music is on, but fitment is the bees knees. Working the iPhone with voice commands is very easy and I was told its hard to tell I'm on the bike when talking. Easy to use with the entire unit being the button to press for functions, meaning no fumbling with gloves on. I like it. It was new in pkg for $143 shipped on eBay and for that price, I wouldn't find anything close. Again, this was the teamset so I got two units together for that price.

What sort of speed can you do and still use these headsets?

I get a lot of buffeting, and this has put me off buying a head set.

But rider to pillion would be useful

Maybe have to look for a different helmet.
