If there is a Thunderbird moan from riders unused to cruiser style, like me, it's not having the clocks in line of sight.

Why didn't I think of this before? I did originally use my iPhone as a satnav and it was very good, apart from the dysfunctional Bluetooth connection, lack of weather-proofing, fuse-blowing power lead and locking connector (when you forget it locks, you pull the guts out of your phone). Alright, I fkd it up.

I now had a redundant RAM mount and realized I could use the free app Awesome HUD with my iPhone to give me my speed (in a number of formats and gps cardinal points), although I note that there are many more HUD apps now. It works brilliantly (apologies for the crap pics):

Well now, I'm not about to do this because I am allergic to both the iphone and windscreens BUT that's a pretty spiffy solution for those that aren't (I'm sure there is an Android solution as well... but still doesn't get me past the required piece of plexi-glass for this project)

Good job

But, you could have an appropriate looking Rear View mirror mounted as a HUD reflector....jst sain.

Trust me, I spent a couple of hours trying to achieve this; the multi-faceted angles required for the phone/bars/light/mirror/line of sight defeated me. I even tried shining it on my visor - you can flip the iPhone screen either way.

So the latest thing is Zombies. Ka-Bar has line of blades that have bio-hazard green, day-glo handles and names like Block Chopper and
De-Animator.

And one of the Holographic sight mfgs has a reticle choice called Zombie Stomper; the bio-harzard symbol and red dot center.
save us from Zombie Marketing.

Wait wait wait. You are saying the iPhone can be flipped to mirror image? How? I could turn my GPS to reflect.

Sorry Dizze, the app allows you to flip the HUD display, not the satnav. That's a great idea though, it'd be beyond kool to see the junction images superimposed over the real thing. Mrs. Ted tells me it looks a bit Terminator-like, coming down the road at night. I should say, it works surprisingly well in all but the brightest sunshine.

Hmmm....then there may be an app that will reverse the display, regardless. Good thinking. I'll let us know.

Bloody brilliant idea and well excecuted, but I really don't like screens on my bikes. I prefer my bikes like my women (naked). If I want to look through a screen, I'll drive my car. To me, feeling the wind is a part of the whole essence of riding a bike.

(Waiting patiently now for hurls of abuse from screen lovers)

I just installed "GPS test plus" on my DroidX, it flips the screen for HUD, has waypoints etc. I haven't tested the speedo or heads up yet.

Not well in bright sunshine, and it gets better as the sun disappears. The app I'm running, Awesome HUD, gives you a range of different colour choices.

Incidentally CB, a belated congrats on your custom work; the best Tbird work I've seen - in my eyes.

I have my iPhone in an Otter Box Defender with a bar mounted Otterbox Defender holder. The Otter Box Defender is very water resistant
and I have an app called Speed Pro-cost was free. It has a Mirroring setting that will allow you to watch the refection when you aim it. Works
even during the day and you can choose red, green or white. I find the speed is about 10% less than Bird's speedo. I too hate having to look down to see my speed. With the red numbers I can see it at noon. Just used it today for a 200 mile run.

The mount is very solid and costs about 40 bucks. The price of a speeding ticket is much much more.

BTW- the Otterbox Defender is a great protection. I dropped my phone in the Otter case at 55 mph on a rough asphalt road. When I picked it up not only was it working but the case was not even too badly damaged. The rubber housing took the shock, even the screen was OK.

I'm seeing 85 at gps 80 and 30 when those road side radars say 25. Yeah, I could change it with TuneECU,
but every time I think it's probably better this way.

I changed mine with TuneECU. I put mine at -3.8 and it is spot on.

Especially for you Diz, since you are a man of accuracy and a little on the OCD side... Maybe it should read out four decimal places for you... Anywho, I dont want to guess at my speed I want it to be spot on. And yes, i am OCD as well.
