Huh? It takes about 3 seconds to remove or replace the Triumph screen.

Yep, mine was assembled incorrectly from the factory. The original screen worked great and now that I've added two little bushings to the replacement screen (that the factory forgot) this one works just fine too. On my Valkyrie I had the National Cycle Switchblade which worked just as well. Too bad they still hire idiots and apparently don't supervise them or inspect their "work" at Triumph.

Without a windscreen, you get hit any and every where in the face and from all directions, especially in foul weather. With a windscreen, air flow is detered, traveling around and above the rider while taking any thing that comes at ya,and from any angle, away with that wind flow.Follow me?? Dave!!!

Have any of you guys ever been hit in the face or the eyes by a June Bug, Moth,or piece of debris kicked up by a vehicle in front of ya??

I had a piece of steel rod thrown back and hit my windshield on my fully faired bike, Honda Pacific Coast. It cracked the screen. Got hit by a dragon fly last summer with a windshield and my visor up. Yep, been hit a few.

I won't run on the super slab with out a screen for a few reasons and keeping crap from hitting me is number 1. Bugs, ball bearings, birds etc are all a annoying when your going 75 mph.

When I'm running high speeds I usually have the visor down in a full face for just that reason, even with the screen up. Only thing better is to get a great big bee going up your pants leg when your running with your feet on the highway pegs.

This has happened twice and I have sworn off highway pegs for good. Twice in one week was enough.

There was a post on the ST1300 forum about a guy that got a baby rattlesnake thrown up by the car in front and it landed in his jacket. It appears to be a true story.

My dealer >>>Streit's Motorsports, Gainesville, FL||| is going to issue me a new windshield on warranty.

OUCH OUCH! on the rattlesnake! I've done the bee thingie twice myself. Being allergic to the little bastards makes it even worse. Yeah, I'll keep my windshield on except for short, around town rides.

I find that when I ride with a full face and no windscreen that bees get sucked into my helmet. They enter right in front of my chin and end up walking around on the inside of my visor. Haven't been stung yet, they seem to like walking on the visor, but I've had to pull over a handful of times to rid myself of the bee.

I seem to collect bees/wasps in my jacket a lot more than my helmet. (Not sure if that is somehow better or not) . Summer before last saw 3 yellow jackets up my sleeve, one in my helmet (up the back, base of the skull), and they've all been pissed about the situation, resulting in multiple stings. Of course since moving to Germany I've not had any bee hits.... where unpleasant things are forboden. (Thankfully they haven't discovered me yet)

Yes I've had a hornet get under my jacket and t shirt and sting the crap out of my back at highway speed with no where to pull over. You need to stay focused for a while.

Eddy got nailed on our trip to AZ last year. Three bees in his jacket at the same time. Multiple stings. Jack and I were right along with him and nothing. Must like that Wisconsin meat...

I really don't like being beside trucks for that very reason. I rarely follow anyone when passing a truck. I just lay back and wait for them to clear the truck and then accelerate hard to get by the truck as quickly as possilbe, particularly here in Florida where their damn retreaded tires blow up so frequently due to the heat.

It's amazing how many people will actually slow down when passing, and some even get right beside a truck and just sit there. Talk about idiots! We should really be allowed to have sidewinders on our bikes for such situations.

Damn, my brand new Cee Bailey screen is now showing the same cracks as the stock one did.

I was careful to use the same mounting hardware in the same spaces but still I see a crack starting.

I EVEN USED A INCH POUND TORQUE WRENCH- I did not over tighten it.

I'm putting a nylon bushing on the end one to see if it stops that from spreading and I think Cee Bailey may send me another one.

Has anyone else with the Cee Bailey had any issues?

Could just the fact of quick releasing the screen make it crack and that is not something we should be doing?

Does the National brand screens have the spider cracking problems?

Best,

Capt T

I had this under the bolt-

It fits loosely on the bolt and does not bind in the hole-I will hear from Cee Bailey tomorrow and post results. Triumph is going to replace my original shield under warranty. I have just heard of an extended warranty. Don't think the bike needs it but it helps a little with resale although I think this bike is a keeper.

Ok, I screwed up by using Red Locktite-it eats plastic. Could this be the problems with the factory windshields cracking as well? Triumph does use locktite or sometimes FORGET (the front fender) to use it.

Bottom line is that EVEN THOUGH I SCREWED UP-by using the Red Locktite. Cee Bailey is going to issue me a new windscreen as they have that good of a warranty. A freaking mazing.

Here is the unedited letter from Joe at Cee Bailey-they stand behind the product. I am having the new one made 23.5" as he said they are like Burger King (American fast food chain ) "Have it your way"

He points out that the correct torque wrench to read 3 inch pounds would cost like 500 bucks for a good calibrated one. I had one from eBay that he said would be worthless so use the plastic water bottle technique.

I took off my screen, drew a big X on it and sent them a photo and they are sending me another right away.

This time of year in South Florida riding with out a screen is the way to go with this much heat. Plus I can't hear all that infernal gear, cams and what ever in that great big Bonneville motor on steroids.
Cee Bailey YOU ROCK.....

FROM LOCKTITE WEBSITE- YIKES

Use on plastic parts, particularly thermoplastic materials where stress cracking of the plastic could result

I'm not too old to learn and admit I made a mistake.

Thanks for your recent purchase and sorry to hear. The picture illustrates a chemical attack and not being over torqued, of course we would need to call it back and send to the manufacture to be certain if you desire to do so. Your statement "I used a Park torque wrench the goes from 0-60 INCH pounds and torqued to the minimum with RED locktite to hold on the cap nuts" is likely the cause. Obviously you did not read the recommended use information on the Loctite Red, click on the link for product information below.

Link

In your statement above are we talking about Foot LBS or Inch LBS? It's supposed to be inch pounds & I assume you know twelve inch pounds equals one foot pound correct?
Loctite will cause a chemical attack and even if one was to use loctite it would need to be Loctitie blue and for this application one should have never use red. Loctite blue could be used if it was applied to the stud or nut off the bike to a fully dried condition for a few days prior to installation, BTW I've used Red Loctite for years and it does not dry, to break loctite red loose you would need a breaker bar or 500 degrees of heat.
I'm also an ASE certified mechanic with a mechanical engineering degree with twenty five years experience. My tools are all Snap On & Matco and I'm more than qualified to speak. Unless the tool you've illustrated is calibrated (must be sent out) I think you would better off using the water bottle method. Tight enough so it does not leak but not so tight the bottle would twist. Very few mechanics let alone DIY guys own an accurate tool sophisticated enough to read values this low and that's why we use the water bottle analogy.
But that's ok because we feature a one year no hassle no fault warranty and it's really of no consequence. You have two options and option (A) is for you to send the shield back at your expense and we'll throw it away and generate a no charge replacement. Option (B) is for you to take a screwdriver and scribe a big X on the surface and send us the picture to verify it's been destroyed and send it to the recycle bin. Once the picture has been received we'll get a no charge replacement order in the system (9-14 days delivery). Let us know how you would like to proceed.

Joe Duval

INCH POUNDS. I too have the C Bailey shield mounted to the original factory switch blade hardware and have pulled it on and off a number of times when cleaning the bike.Only mine isn't cracked.Plain and simple,ya over tightened it.You must follow their instructions to the letter. The instructions tell ya 3-5 inch lbs.But they also tell ya that, if ya don't have a GOOD inch pound torque wrench, then tighten the nuts like ya would a cap on a bottle.Hopefully you'll have better luck with the next one. Dave!!!

It was the Red Locktite-I did not over tighten.

Quote from Cee Bailey's email to me from above;

The picture illustrates a chemical attack and not being over torqued, of course we would need to call it back and send to the manufacture to be certain if you desire to do so.

Don't use locktite on plastic screens.

Even though I was an idiot they are sending me a new one.

To me,they look like spider cracks from too much torque on the acorn nuts.I never heard of lock tite raising hell with lexan, but you could be right as anything is possible! But please keep us advised on C Bailey's findings for future reference. Thank you.

Regarding the locktite, never,NEVER use RED unless you plan on never taking it apart again.lol That's like welding the nut to the bolt. Been there and done that.lol Use the BLUE.Dave!!!
