I like it. Size wise, It would be a good idea to see a general picture of the bike with it.

Abit large for my taste. Maybe about a 3rd to 1/2 smaller?

dunno
size seems ok
any smaller and it could be lost as the panels arent that large.
but i can see why you might say that due to the top sloping edge maybe.

i like the idea of a symbol rather than text as it redefines some of the mystique of the bike.

thought

you could deform within proportion the left wing to slope with the panel egde
this would render a usain bolt look
could give a feeling of forward motion and a sense of direction.

There should only be just one logo on the side view of the bike; either the one on the tank or the one on the side. Otherwise the would be competing.

I think it resembles the harley eagle logo a bit too much.

I have to admit complete ignorance of the American Indian origins of the Thunderbird legend.

I wonder is the Thunderbird definately an Eagle? Could it be another raptor or even a large owl?

The clue may be in my avatar but I like to think an owl like Ninox strenua (Powerful Owl) may have been the inspiration for the Thunderbiord legend?

I have been toying with an image something like the above.

Noladuck, you do have a point there but I wasn't trying to copy Harley. I thought I had something special to share with everybody but it kinda backfired. I appreciate everyones honest opinions, so I will probably remove the emblems. But I do believe thanks to the Harely Davidson factory 5 miles down the road from where I live and all the motorcycle police ride Harleys that we are allowed to run our bikes as loud as we want and never get harassed.

Nah, didn't backfire. You just got honest opinions. But that's the nice thing about modifying your own bike.. it's your own and you can do what you want. Not everyone is going to like what you do, hell nobody may like what you do... so. If you like it, run with it. But if you post it here, folks will give their opinions. (I was actually going to say honest opinions there but half the time the comments are over inflated exaggerations because we like giving each other shit).

For the record, it's not my cuppa but I don't think it looks 'bad', just not what I'd do.

Oh, and I think it looks much more like the German eagle than the Harley one.

+ 1 on both counts.

if you came to this forum for consensus on, well... ANYTHING, you came to the wrong place But, as Thatch rightly says, at least you'll get honest opinions. (along with a GENEROUS portion of sarcasm).

seventiesMXer don't remove the emblems because of any comments on here, if you like them that's good enough, it's your bike you can do whatever you want with it.

Although I'm still perplexed by this constant requirement for an americanisation of the Thunderbird logo.. this is the Thunderbird logo.

If you really do your homework, the legend of the Thunderbird is what the natives saw in the sky that some will say were ancient alien space craft that visited the planet long ago.
Do I believe ? I dont know,
Do I keep an open mind, maybe,
Either way a big powerful "bird" is what they saw and they were in aw.

I followed the herd and I got lost,
I went my own way and now I am found.

Perhaps that's all true, but the only thing in the sky that inspired the Triumph Thunderbird name was the totem pole based sign of the Thunderbird Motel in South Carolina which Edward Turner visited in 1949 on his way to Daytona. So think more ice machines and 25 cent magic fingers massage bed's then space ships and indians when it comes to the tbird's origins.

Is the Thunderbird Motel in South Carolina still operating?

Sounds like the ideal place for a North American "Flocking".

Yup it is. I took my bike down for a photo shoot at the Motel 2 years ago shortly after getting my BB kit installed.

It's located in Florence SC some 30 miles or so (IIRC) south of the NC border on I-95. It's not that special on it's own other than the history (and the nifty sign) but it's just a few miles from Darlington raceway which in of itself is a great destination as well.

I wish I had known that. I recently took a NASCAR driving course at Darlington. My kids bought it for me for Christmas. I would have stayed there just to say I had.
