So, the guy I had made arrangements with to ship my new bike from Alabama to Colorado just blew me off... da bastard!

I figured I'd ask you U.S. hooligans if you know anyone who's either an independent trucker or otherwise has the time and experience to help a fellow motorcyclist move a bike. Willing to pay either fair market value or fuel/food costs.

I know, I know... a long shot, but I thought I'd ask.

motorcycleshippers.com seems to have a pretty good reputation from what I've heard. Lots of ebay folks use them. Seem like they're a professional unit as well. I threw in some quick figures and it looks like it would cost you about $700 for them to take it from Alabama to Colorado (give or take).

Good luck

Yeah... I checked them out earlier in my research. Was hoping to find an independent (like the guy I was working with) who'd work with me on scheduling so I could know when to be in Tuscaloosa to do the transaction and see the bike loaded.

Back to the drawing board... may still opt for the U-Haul/Penske truck option and do it myself.

You could always just hop on and point her West and ride her home yourself

Actually, I'd be surprised if you found a situation like that simply because truckers typically keep pretty tight schedules.... at least the ones that are busy and more likely to show up on the other end. MS.com should at least be able to give you a hard date and a portion of the day they can pick up. I used a similar service when I sold my Barracuda and they were easy to work with (though it wasn't this particular company)

Dave I used Specialized Transportation Inc to truck my Honda four from Indiana to Washington back in 2009. They were excellent on communication, prompt and the bike was delivered with no damage. Cost I think was around $600-700 but can't be sure.

If you value your Corbin Fairing and rest of your beauty then I highly suggest Fun Transport- a really crappy name for a very precise company that will not screw up your bike. They are part of Allied Van Lines. I used to ship a totally plastic covered Honda Pacific Coast from Florida to Michigan each year. Not a scratch in 4 transits.

Call Jackie Taylor, who rides a Shadow and a Bonnie and find the current rates. I have also shipped 2 BMW's to California and they got there perfect as well.

Best part is NO CRATING NEEDED. They specialize in motorcycles and drivers only work with motorcycles. Big new trucks with big liftgates.

The Triumph from Florida to Michigan with 15000 insured was 675 last May. If I take the Bird to Michigan I'm going to ride it there!

Worth a call-

Welp, found a few reliable shippers... one even based a few miles from my house. He's a good guy and I'd highly recommend him to anyone looking to ship a bike in the future...

Evergreen Motorsports (Jay)

But... his current schedule just isn't gonna work for me on this one. The guy I'm buying the KTM from is a German working temp. for Mercedes in Alabama. He and his wife and kids are getting ready to move back to Germany and he doesn't want to take responsibility for storing the bike after I buy it while waiting for a shipper to come get it. Can't say I blame him.

So, just reserved a Penske ramp van... got a pretty good rate (w/ unlimited miles) with my AAA card, pretty competitive with shipping, plus I won't have to wait a month to get my bike. Of course, I've gotta drive it 1200 miles back to Denver, but oh well, beats working! I'm flying on down to Birmingham on Sat. morning, doing the deal, loading up the bike in the van, and then start heading west into the night.

This trip won't be nearly as exciting as the Thunderbird ride to California and back

Hey guys, do we really care about anything non-Thunderbird owners have to say?
