| Posted : 08 Dec 2011 - 13:11 Post title : New Helmet - Bell Revolver Rally | | So, I've been looking at and rejecting modulars for some time now. I don't ride with a full face normally but there are times that would be nice to save my dashing good looks from the elements without locking myself into a full time bucket. Problem is, I don't really care for most of the modulars because they look like, well, modulars. Enter the Bell Revolver. This is a sport style modular that really is a sharp helmet when closed and at first glance doesn't appear to be a modular at all. Granted it still has the seam running down from ear to jaw and it does have a more rounded silhouette but the general feel is of a standard full face helmet, which I liked quite a lot. Add to they had a slightly more high end version with rally stripes and it made my short list of future purchases.
Well, black Friday rolls around and I get an email in from Motorcycle Superstore and guess what's on sale. The rally version is on sale from $210 down to $89. Sold (It's gone up now, I think it's at $120 now) So it came in yesterday and I'm pretty impressed with it.
Ok, so too many pictures, but that should give you some fairly good looks at what it's got.
Modular construction with a single button on the chin to lift the face. Works well, feels solid both up and down
Fog free visor. I put it on and purposely breathed as heavy as I could within the helmet and got no fogging at all.
Internal sun visor with roller control at left jawline. Good feature for tunnels.
Air intake on chin piece. Not many modulars have this it seems.
Magnetic strap end keeper. Brilliant idea. Should be on all D ring helmets.
Fit is a bit small so if you are on the edge move up to the next size.
I've heard they are loud helmets but I've not ridden in mine yet. Of course modulars all seem to be loud so...
So that's it. Just thought I'd share. Nothing earth shattering, just a nice addition to the ever increasing helmet collection.

Riding with an open face helmet is, for me, a liberating experience but needs must in the winter and long trips.
Good choices fellas!

Yeah well you know my preference. I road the Bled trip and 2800 miles of the Greece / Italy tour in a open face helmet. But it's good to have options, just in case I wake up feeling wimpy.

With or without the chin guard in conjunction with n-com X-series Bluetooth kit, works well with Garmin zumo 660 and iPhone4. Bought it about a year ago use it every day riding to work I'm very pleased with it all. Check out the links

Given my trade mark cigar sticking out of my mouth (a la Clint Eastwood - it's how I meeasure distances - 1 cig = 50 kms ) I always ride with the lid up. The only exception and the sole pupose of the flip-up is for when it rains (blinding). I've been using the Nolans for the past 12 years.
Thatch, I would be curious about the aerodynamics on the Bell (when open) which is a consideration for longer journeys (my kind).

I currently use a Zeus flip which has been very good except the wind gets too much over about 70 k/h with the flip up.

I looked at the Shark Evoline previously. I wanted to like it as I have a shark s800 which I quite like and I liked some of the functional elements of the Evoline (ones the Revolver also has but it wasn't available when I looked at the evoline) The problem I had with the Evoline was that it is very heavy, had limited visibility and the chin catch seemed a bit flimsy (that could of been a one off issue with the display model I had) As with all things equipment wise, personal preference trumps all and you may well like the Evoline. That was just my findings. If you can find one local to try first, do so.
Good luck what ever you get.

I've been using one for a couple of years and it's very comfortable and extremely well constructed. Link It's always cool in the summer with the venting and is easily cleaned. Grab the little red button on the front and pop the entire face plate up.

Was it the ST2? as they have changed quite a few things since the first Evoline. The chin piece requires a gentle push towards your face to complete the closing action, which does take a bit of getting used to. I will see if the shop will loan me one to first so I can check out the vision(side?) which you mentioned. Weight is about the same as my Zeus, so I'm used to that. I will check out the Shoei as well.
Apparently the UK has some special rating? the ST2 scored 4 from 5 and it is also Snell approved (so I was told).
