Anybody else checking this out?

The real deal. The most extreme sport.

Heavy Armour, full contact, war horse, jousting. New meat for the list!

On Discovery, of course. They are trying to bootstrap a Professional Sport.
It's real hard on the apprentices, however.

Not very new. My cousin has been involved in The Society for Creative Anacronism (SCA) since the early 80s and he's still an active combatant (once again "King" of his "kingdom").

He's training to participate in this upcoming mega-battle, Battle of Nations

While more than just a sport for many of these people, it's become a serious martial art form and many of these guys are bad asses. Imagine sparring with another bad ass in about 75lbs of gear.

Here's a vid of my cousin talking briefly about his gear...

And here he is doing a demo and giving a brief lesson to novices...

That midvil stuff is serious shit. A friend of mine used to be a jouster during the annual renesainance festible and broke several bones over the years doing it.

Well, this is new. And they have been doing the fairs in light armour and stll do fairs to get started.

This is about starting a heavy hitting world league. Not about creative anacronism. More go, less show.
I have some horsemanship, but this looks very difficult, even before the lances land.

Cheers:

I bet to differ... the guys who started this (and just finished filming) are long-time veterans of SCA and are now not thought of too kindly among their brethren. Looking from the outside a lot of it sounds like sour grapes, but my cousin gave me a brief rundown of it... sounds like he knows them well. He's not too happy with them, either... calls them, "douchebag posers"

Yeah, Posers calling the posers posers?

Forget SCA. The Knights are trying to start/revive a Sport. SCA's where they started, not where they're going.
Like the Sea Sheps and Green Peace. No going back. The bottom or the top, that's it.

Pussies calling the pussies out? I don't think so. It's like the MMA guy I met, middl-o-nowhere, Idaho.
I made the mistake of saying I had a little Kung Fu training. "Let's spar", say's he. But, it really was
the look on his face that brought me to my senses.

The SCA differnces can be settled in the List. As they should be. Posers are not jousters, IMO. Posers don't joust.
Maybe that's all there is to it.

And the KMs are making good TV. Something SCA never has and never will rise to.
