First bike I had was a 250cc Francis Barnett, Cruiser 84, about 1973.
Cost me 5 Quid, a weeks wages with overtime.
It had the habit of back firing into reverse, embarrassing at the traffic lights!

I was living in Gunnison, Colorado in the summer of 1983 when I got this 1975 Yamaha 650 Special. It was a crap rust brown when I bought it, but I got the tank and covers painted and had the seat re-upholstered. I had it till I moved to Denver in September of that year and then traded it in for a brand-new (at the time) 1984 Suzuki GS550E

I was only 12 and didn't have a license yet but really put on the miles. Only got stopped once by the police but he was an understanding guy and called my dad to come and get me and the bike.
I guess it doesn't matter how big it is if you have fun with it.

Yip - that was my first road bike at 16. Also had a Montesa 348 for off road - got nabbed for riding it on the road. The Bike cop came round to my house that night for what I thought was going to be a big twatting infront of my parents - but instead bought me a replacement silencer for the Montesa as it had a hole in it. How things have changed.

Got hit by a car December 23 1971,broke lefy ankle plus various cuts and abrasions. Came out of plaster and brought a 1963 Triumph Thunderbird 6T 650. When I purchased a car,I also got a Yamaha CT2 175cc to go around the fire trails. marriage and kids meant I was out of bikes until four years ago....brought a 1971 Triumph Tiger TR6R 650 and a year later a 2006 T100 Bonneville. Sold the Bonnie to get the 2010 T/Bird. Still have the Tiger....so I get the best of both bike worlds, Classic and Modern.

first road/trail bike was a Yamaha xt 250. i was 16 and had just got my self a blue cattle dog well he rod on the tank of that bike with me and on many other bikes until the day he died(11 years) he was amazing he could ride better than i could on and off road,people that saw him ride off road with me would be stunned at how he could stay on the bike over jumps,sideways,hillclimb etc.
he was my best companion i ever had.

In 1984 I bought a Honda CB400 Dream (£225), stripped it down did it up and sold it to my next door neighbour for £425 he used it for years.
Bought a Kawasaki GPX750R in 1988, followed by a brand new CBR1000FK in 1989, was the only friday afternoon CBR they ever built by all accounts, was forced to sell in 1992.
Was bikeless untill 2010 when I bought the Tbird, fantastic bike has never missed a beat.

Oh, if you want to start talking Schwinn, then here's what I got for my 8th birthday. When I saw it I nearly shit myself I wish I still had it... I'd cruise it around the neighborhood with pride, making all the little (and big) kids extremely jealous

As a matter of fact I used to give a certain neighborhood girl rides on the back of the "banana seat" all the time. She was my first kiss (go on, say it: "AWWWW SO CUTE!"), so I guess the bike did its job 
Oh, and this was the bike I learned to ride wheelies on... the small front tire made it easy.
FYI: Check out the "Springer" front suspension. Remind you of the "high-tech" suspension used on certain American-made motorcycles?

If I remember correctly, I didn't even ask for it... something in my 8 year old brain knew it was too much to ask. They just got it... probably the best gift I got as a kid. Again, I wish I still had it. I don't even remember what happened to it... must have disappeared during the divorce.
But, that bike started my lifelong passion for all things 2-wheeled and adventure sports, in general. After the divorce, bigger ticket "toys" were far and few between. My childhood friend (he's my riding buddy with the Concours 14 who've I've posted about) got a Honda 50 when we were 12 and we rode that bike into the ground! Various other neighborhood kids got mini-bikes, then dirt bikes... I was lucky enough to get to ride them all. We were bat-shit crazy on those things... building rickety jumps, riding wheelies on road, getting hunted by police for riding on the streets, etc. I was lucky I didn't break my neck or end up in Juvey or both!

After we first saw the movie Evil Kenevel when it first came out in 1971, we build a wood ramp and took turns jumping over 6 neighborhood kids (side-by-side, not end-to-end). Not sure how we agreed to 6, but I don't remeber ever landing on any

Sounds like we both grew up in the era of Evel Knievel  I think we jumped kids, dogs, and I believe even flaming bags of shit I switched to skateboarding at 14 and was OBSESSED with it till 22... pool and ramp riding trying to be like my heros: Tony Alva, Jay Adams, and Stacy Peralta. Motorcycles didn't come back into my life till I got out of college and got a "real job".

Have had over 40 bikes since and cannot imagine life without a bike so currently have 5 and ride evreyday rain or shine. Stopped riding in the snow 2 years back as I can't take the pain anymore.
After bikes nothing else matters.

Yep, here was my first brand new bike. It was the latest thing in those days. Of course my mother rode a Harley. She took it every morning to the store to get fresh milk. The bike being a Harley she always brought back butter though? Mom's still quite a gal; 97 years old and still doesn't use glasses. No sir, she drinks right out of the bottle.

Oh yeah, disc brakes, ABS, traction control and titanium piston return springs. It was very advanced for the '20s.

I don't know anything about the year or model but I bought it in 1971 for $50 and it was old and pretty stuffed but given that I was still at school, all I could afford. It was painted gold frost with a black stripe down the middle (similar to the silver and black 'Tbirds).
I loved it and the fun I had with it was fantastic. I used is as a bush basher, chasing around in the scrub with a mate on his Kwaka 90. After snapping 3-4 drive shafts and a couple of axles I was eventually told by my dad that the blokes at work in the machine shop couldn't make them any bigger or of any stronger material and that I was to stop taking it over jumps and riding it off road.
The cops pulled my mate over one day (we had swapped bikes for the hell of it) and after they had driven off I turned back to see what they wanted. He said that they just pulled up alongside, laughed and drove off  . How embarrassing; it was time for an upgrade. Next was a red tank Yammy DT250. It was the first of a series of off road bikes until my first road bike the 'Tbird almost 40 years later.
I still have a soft spot for that old Lambretta though.

Same for me. Bought mine in 1974 and used it to ride the old gold trails until I was old enough to get a license a few years later.
My first road bike, an SR500, followed and I haven't ridden a trail bike since.
