I have been looking around at various reasonably priced options to carry some light luggage on my Storm and finally came up with this cheap solution.

I was looking for something that had "rails" that were the correct width (9 1/2 inch center to center at the bends to match the distance between the front and rear fender attachment bolts) and I picked up this sink strainer dealio at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $14.99 US.

I removed the handles which were to became my luggage rack.

After much measuring and then bending / cutting, I mounted the two rails to the fender mounting bolts.

They work great for strapping on my travel bag as well my laptop bag. (and I don't think they look too funky...) Oh, and the "rails" are very rigid.
Okay photoshop'ers, I am ready for you....

If you re-attach the mesh part you will have a TBird salad dryer. Just a thought.

I think it looks like what it is, ie: cheap and tacky and detrtacts from a bloody nice bike - but that's just my opinion.

Fred ,
Do you think you could fashion a beer holder out of any leftover steel ?

Actually, you have to give the guy credit for creativity and it's really quite neat. I don't need one myself but can see the usefulness of this for him.

In case it was lost in translation, I am a cheap bastard and can't see spending $400-plus US each for the various pieces and parts that I want; I have always been way handy with the tools and LOVE to tinker about! And I know that all of you guys really were jealous of my awesome muffler system I tried out last month! ("there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth") as well my salad drainer luggage rack. Oh, and I don't drink beer any longer (recovering alcoholic coming up on eight years next month, God willing), but I will be fashioning the strainer basket into a gimbal-mount coffee holder - stay tuned!!!

Uh, Kevin, It IS a little funky looking. You spent almost $15K for your bike, splurge a little and get a luggage rack, but not the sissy bar that is funky looking also.

Hey Fred,

Name doesn't ring a bell, but I'm better with faces than names.

Does Dave ride?
