No problem here, and I'm less than 2 miles from the ocean. As I recall you're between Bristol and London and that's not near salt water either. I just can't think of any other reason for it to rust. Where is the rust and do you use a good wax?

Less than a mile from the sea. Nio problems.

This shed thing that you mentioned - is it by any chance one of those plastisol sheet steel bike sheds ?

A poorly ventilated shed/garage will eat your toys away in no time.

I can see the sea from my house....I have no garage/shed/cover....just a throw-over cover, which I won't put on while the bike is warm...so if it rains, it gets wet! Rust I suffer is minimal - passenger footpegs obvious....other areas get alloy corrosion - wheels, engine block....but it has been a bad winter & I did take it out on some snowy days too!

Just the chrome? sounds like a bad run on plated parts. I hope QC is'nt slipping due to increased production, or outsourcing parts

i had some rust problems on chrome cam plugs at top of engine - replaced. also had alloy wheels get it last winter after forgetting to rinse off bike. - only 4 hr delay..........pitted bad. Triumph sent me a sarcastic note about cleaning them - cheeky sods. took me best part of 3 months to get em back something like. some minor rusting around welding on light bracket - using ACF 50

rear foot peg end caps, fork legs (replaced under warrenty) powder coating came off rear pully (replaced under warrenty) rust round ignition switch, various nuts and bolts rusting, chrome peeling off rocker cover and end caps, rust on rear shocks etc etc. The wheels have pitted so bad it takes hours to clean them then they are just as bad with in a week!!!The first day I got the bike I covered everything in ACF50 and after every time I clean it but it still rusts. Its really annoying for a two year old bike!!! I had a Bonnie T100 before the bird, rode it in all weathers and there was not a speck of rust or corrosion after 11000 miles and two years

The only rust I've seen so far on my scooter is the upper back edge of the swing arm, right in front of the tire and have already addressed it. Dave!!!

Had some on the pillion footpegs. Got a call out of the blue this morning from the dealer - they had ordered and got them in stock for me. Good on them.

Do you store any oxidizing/corroding material that could be "sweating" out of porous containers?

I've just moved two containers of paint stripper into a different shed, away from the bikes, in case they leak fumes.

Some years back I bought 5 litres of stainless steel soldering flux.

Only used some, put the lid back on, and stood it under the bench at the back against the wall.

Some months later I dropped something that rolled under the bench.

When I got down to look under the bench, I saw a lot of crystals had grown around the lid of the container, and the bench had started to go very rusty, large orange/brown rust growth.

Now I try to remember to keep all this away from tools, machines, and bikes.

Dad once "had" a metal shed where he kept such items, did'nt take long for it to have a front door AND a back door.

I keep my Bird about 300 yards from the beach under a Dowco Cover-often we get covered in salt mist. I regularly will hose down my bike with fresh water and then dry it off with compressed air. Last year when I first got the bike it started to get some tiny green specks which really pissed me off with a new bike. So I got out the Never Dull, Flitz and Meguires metal polish and went all over the metal which took a few days of elbow grease. I then put some Collonite Insulator Wax over as much as I could and on the wheels. A year later I don't have any green goblins and my friends all blast me for keeping my bike so clean. It still looks new. I think the secret is to low pressure rinse the bike after getting road grime on it and then dry it off. Works for me. Plus the Insulator wax keeps the grit and crud from getting to the metals microscopic nooks and crannies.

the advice from mark (triumph warrenty uk) was use wax oil,
i use 365 and ive had no rust and its easy to clean too except for where the brake dust settles
