I have kept my black and chrome 1600 Tbird in it purpose built shed from new.I paid circ £10500 new it had to go back three time to have rusty parts replaced. After 13mths I sold it back to the dealer with 3800 miles for £7100 there are still some rust on it and they have it up for £8200. Has anyone had similar problems. Was I unlucky or does the low trade price show that this model is hard to shift

i think all the birds have a low trade in value.
i have a black and chrome, no rust, but the alloy wheels are doing my head in as i prefer to ride than polish, not that they rust.

what bike have you got now dave?

There is another thread on rust. I have to ask but is your shed vented? If not during temp. changes it could build up condensation. Still no excuse for a 1 to 2 year bird to rust BTW was it the chrome?

on a serious note: if you are at all near salt water, there are particles from sea spray. salt crystals. these are carried on the winds, from road-dust, and if you ever had a house in the spray-zone or even a few hundred yards of same you will know of which I speak.

these salt crystals are the worst thing for corrosion: they are hydrophilic and each cycle of condensation/evaporation, go back adn forth into and out of solution. absorb moisture, etc. imagine that over and over in your shed.

probably would be better if you DID ride in the rain once or twice to get your bike rinsed.

just a thought.

One more thing, if you guys have a pool DO NOT STORE CHLORINE NERE ANYTHING METAL it's highly corrosive, no matter what container it's in the vapors/gasses will escape and do damage!!! Dad "had" a metal shed where he kept it but not for long.

your trading price seems about rite, a dealer has a standard markup of around 10% of retail on used bikes, this is normally based on glassed guide price, £8200 retail is about rite as well for a 13 month old t-Bird.

it would be the same no matter what bike it was, there was a Rocket 3 touring on my dealer that was bought brand new for £12,500 buy a guy that had not ridden for 10 years, took it home from the dealer and dropped it on his drive, bent clutch leaver that all but after that he would not ride it again, they collected it from him about 3 months later only having done 15 miles (4 of them from the PDI) and gave him £8200 as per the glasses guide price.

just the way it is, you don't buy bikes or cars to make money

25,000 miles in all weathers in 2 years with not a spot of rust. I treated with ACF50 and Scotoiler 365 though - did you use either or both?

That was the T'bird, the Storm was another matter, ACF50 couldn't help that poor thing. I recon Mat tapped my back wheel you know

Oh and being economical with the truth is not lying

I heard he was enjoying the birdsong, singing along to the whistling wind and needed a closer look at the orchids

Interestingly, having seen it in the showroom, it's amazing what a bit of "elbow grease" can do as it looked as good as new.

Looks like Davie boy lost a few quid 'cos he couldn't be bothered to give his bird a little TLC eh.
