Grant it, I live in Upstate NY....but it's been in the low to mid 90's and stifflingly humid. I nearly boil over at every traffic light while wearing my Triumph leather jacket (the one with the white Triumph logo in the shape of a spade...forget the model, etc.). It's got nice vents, etc. for when moving, but I don't know how much of the upcoming August heat I can handle in this thing.

Bottom line is I need some recommendations on either Triumph or other brand summer jackets. I know some of you may dislike the new "textile" and/or "mesh" jackets, but I'm hearing some good reviews (but none really able to confirm the safety...cuz what a crap job that would be crash-testing motorcycle jackets, eh???).

I did a search here, but came up empty...or didn't use the right criteria, so I apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered previously.

Please help! Thanks

Jamie

Hey Jaime,

I bought an Alpinestars Air-Flo Textile Jacket last summer right before I rode from Denver to the Grand Canyon in August. I knew we'd be seeing temps. over 100 (the highest we rode in was about 120!), so I also got myself an evaporative cooling vest for when the temps REALLY started climbing... it worked amazingly well to keep my core from steaming.

I really like my Air-Flo jacket and pants for hot weather riding... TONS of air move through both. Hell, I wear just undies under the pants... lighter than jeans, really moves air though, but still have great protection (knee, butt, and hip pads included). My jacket has the usual armor, too. Lots of protection and cooling for the money.

I have one of the Triumph Mesh jackets... Just awesome in warm weather. Its cooler to wear the jacket than a T-shirt because you get as much breeze without the sun beating down on you.

I use an Icon Hooligan 2 mesh stealth jacket. The jacket vents air really well and feels sturdy enough to hold up in an accident (I hope I never have to test that theory out). It has the usual CE approved shoulder and elbow protection and some extra protection along the forearm area. you can also upgrade the back protection to be CE approved as well. I added the back protector and think that it makes the jacket more comfortable. My favorite part of the jacket is the stretch panel that is in the arm area that stops your sleeves from riding up your arm when you reach for the bars.

We both wear a tourmaster mesh type jacket, they have the protection built in and comes with two liners, one is waterproof, it works too. The jackets are still warm when still but air moves through really nice when moving.

Cycle Gear has their brand BILT mesh jacket in the new catalog, one for 79 and one for 89, have not been up to see them at the local store. I use the Triumph Rochester jacket most of the summer, but they do not make it anymore. Mesh is 100% but some at least is more protection than 99% of the bikers in L.A. Certainly hope Orange County Choppers did not do that bike.

Try a Tour Master Air Intake 2 jacket. They are well made, good for 3 seasons per year. It is 102 degrees here today, so I KNOW your pain. The Jacket is about $169 and will stand heavy use. I like the high visibility yellow/black jacket. Drivers can see you! If you like a more subdued color, that is fine, the jacket will keep you a lot cooler than a standard coat or leather jacket. You may need more than this in winter, but in most places, this jacket will get you through 3 seasons.

Check out a Vanson Vent Max. This textile mesh is just as well built as my leather Vanson. It was very comfortable on hot, humid days when I used to live in Louisville. There's a good testimonial on their website from a guy who crashed at high speed. Don't really need it much now that I live in Alaska. Also, I tried out a BMW Airflow jacket from the dealer on a test ride during a hot day in the California central valley. Very pricey but a really nice summer jacket.

I just sold my Tour Master mesh for the new Triumph adventure mesh jacket. I like the Triumph much better. It is better looking and stays in place better.
