On sale for $9.99 it's a direct to battery adapter with a bracket for handlebars, although it may be adaptable for other areas. Gonna get one and try it out!

Item #579125. Type it in the search bar on the left side of the site.

If you get one ,wire it direct to the parking light in the headlamp with double push on connectors. This way it becomes switched with the ignition. Took me all of ten mins to sort and no removal of seat needed.

I've got two of those sockets, exact same except we pay $30-00 each here!!

I wired one to the horn with an in-line fuse and all is good!! (haven't fitted the other one yet!)

Does the parking lamp have enough capability on that circuit for heavy current items being it powers a small bulb?

I ran the power outlet I am testing direct from the battery, part of an expandable system that allows you to plug (in line) a battery charge indicator and a battery charger but the "cigarette" power out let does not have a cap like the one above or a mount capability, that is the only down side so far.

I am on a quest for a good set up for our bikes.

Since the one I'm getting goes directly to the battery, why would I want to splice it or tie it in with another circuit? With nothing plugged in, it won't be drawing power anyhow.

Well i'm just set up for charging phone or I-plod etc. So no great draw there. Until I get the Triumph chrome fridge freezer option I'll run with it for now.

Maybe you can hook up an air conditioning unit to it.

Never mind...I thought you meant about an in line after I read the post I see you were referring to the parking lamp circuit.

You guys know that the bird comes prewired for an AC power socket, right? Triumph sells the socket plus the mounting hardware as an accessory and is designed specifically for the bike.

Thanks fab for catching my mistake. Yes I meant 12 volts DC...

No not for 9.99 but the factory one fits, it is wired into the bike without cutting or splicing, and is designed with an appropriate fused circuit. Much less hassle, much cleaner install, and almost invisible. To me that is worth the extra 20.00 when you consider your time lost in hacking, splicing, spot location research, mounting etc. It took all of 10 minutes to install the factory one. Time is money and money is time... If it where a savings of hundreds of dollars it would be different but not 20 bucks. The other benefit is location. I can put my phone or whatever needs charging in my saddle bag and run the cord a very short distance to the power socket which is located next to the ignition key. On long trips I put my phone in the bag with the power attached, turn on the bluetooth music function to my helmet and start knocking down miles. Additionally its location provides protection from rain. Many times you get what you pay for.

So, I've got the battery tender and the add on wiring that has the plug on one end and the alligator clips on the other. Thinking of cutting off the alligator clips, splicing on the cig lighter, and then I can take it off the bike. The outlet for the tender is under the left side cover from the battery. I will be installing saddle bags with easy brackets and I plan to go into the back of the bag with the cig lighter. Then, if I remove the saddlebags, I can disconnect the cig lighter from the battery tender plug and it comes off as well. I can charge the phone or anything else in the privacy of the bag. On short days of riding, I don't really have the need for the adapter to charge the phone so I won't need it installed onto the bike. The tender lead from the battery has a fuse on it as well, so that should work. Does this sound reasonable?

Does anybody know whether the Storm is similarly pre-wired for an outlet? Thanks.

I can't confirm 100%, but since it's basically the same bike, I'm betting it is. Doesn't matter, because putting a 12V port on is a pretty simple deal.

I added this 12 V outlet to my bird for the GPS. It is a marine grade weather proof outlet. It is wired into the existing factory power outlet plug down by the keys (which is a DIN outlet thats needs an adapter to use). This seems to be a good location and simply sliding a rubber o-ring around the male plug end of the GPS power cord seals it against rain (so far).
