| Posted : 24 Nov 2009 - 19:55 Post title : Longhaul passenger seat woes. | | My wife cannot ride her bike for a couple of years so I ordered a 'better' seat for the pillion. Ordered the longhaul passenger seat and commenced waiting.......
Anyway the seat arrived yesterday so rushed to the dealer, picked it up and put it on the bike.
From the back it looked great - similar in style to the America pillion but a tad larger however.....
From the front it just does not fit with the stock riders seat.....
From the rear...
On it's own from the side
Fitted to the bike - from the front - see the huge gap between back of rider and pillion!
Will be taking it back to the dealer for a refund - can anyone suggest another pillion pad for the wife that will allow her to ride more than 40km without screaming?

in OZ$ - pillion pad is $279 Riders longhaul is $395 The dual combined rider and pillion is $589
So the triumph options are.....
1. Keep pillion pad and order new riders - outlay $395 2. Return pillion pad and get the dual - outlay $310
Other options are to return pillion and then I have $279 to play with if any other options are out there

If you are planning on riding solo a lot I would just bite the bullet and order the riders longhaul. That way you can remove the pillion and have the cool look.

(Re: fab) | | It does state that at least now it does if it did not before....if you are using the build a Triumph section....under the passenger seat description it lists that the other seat is required....but I have seen other mistakes that are still omitted from the website. They do not seem to put much importance on accuracy on the site.

Sorry to hear your woes Fab, but when I ordered my accessories including long haul to be fitted to my Bird back last July, the Triumph Bike Builder did state that long haul riders seat was required for this option. It seems incredible that your dealer didn't know this.
It does seem a shame though that if willing to wait some time that Trium.ph cannot supply a bike built to your exact specifications as with ordering anew vehicle from a car dealer.
Hope the ridings good out there. We're still snow bound in UK.

(Re: SeanS) | | Thanks seans, it has been sorted out now, ended up with the long haul riders seat so it matches the pillion now. my dealer was very helpful and apologetic about it.when they contacted triumph about it,they said they would reword the description of the seats. And they did me a price i couldn't complain about once the rain stops i will be back out on the road(i haven't seen a Christmas in Australia with so much could weather and rain) but i shouldn't whinge it could be snowing hope you get out on your bike soon seans.

Birdy - I was back in Rockton, Wisconsin (home of the Merkin maker) two weeks ago. I took some pictures for you.
Here is my son and brother-in-law in front of the Merkin shop:

Here's a shot looking through the front door:
I told the lady that you were enjoying your merkin.
Birdy - if you have white strips painted on your TB, they could make you a new merkin from a skunk fir - would match nicely

That it a definite YES YES. Although I do intend to get a totally new seat - custom made kinda thing. But for those colder autumn days I will be putting the Merkin back on, that's for sure.
Thanks Thatch for the pictures - it helps put 'real' images into the stories I tell

Link The amazing thing is that you can order it with a fulisik combination of whatever colours you want for the same price as basic black!
I've had a Corbin seat before, and swear by them, as does my Mrs. I'm saving up, and getting samples of their leathers to help me decide what colours to get. :)
