Funny you should say that -its growing on me too. I would not go any bigger than that but having lived with a fly screen for a year I may look at going to this size. It must be an age thing

Guys , in answer too your question its the summer screen, I had this put on myself, rest of bike is how it came, wanted something to fend off body buffering but not a barn door, found this to be just right and in keeping with the bike... anyway I like it and it's works for me

Mmm - they look much more 'fitting' to the appearance of the 'Bird than my Tear Drops do!!!
If I may ask - do you have, or could you take a pic or two from the front with a little artistic preference towards the mirrors.
Thanks there EnGage.

How do you insert a pic in your post? Most forums have the little mountain icon you click on to insert the link.

Daryl, when you pull up the "reply" box you will see 5 tabs at the bottom. The second one from the right "Upload photo/file" is the one you want to select. A box will come up, when it does hit the browse button and select from the location on your computer where your picture is...then select the upload button. It all happens automatically from there. Good luck.

I notice that very few have put saddlebags on their Thunderbird. Are folks using their bikes for trips or just day rides. How do these bikes do hours in the saddle?

Only use the bags when I have to... Like touring most of all but as only one up I prefer to use a bag on my rack attached to the sissy bar for longer trips.

Narsisco Lopez has his loaded up good and proper - see events and rallies section.

90% of the time it's just day tours or a Saturday to Sunday stop over:

For the longer tours I then put on the saddlebags using Easy Brackets:

There are two versions of the Easy Bracket - With and Without Sissy Bar:

As you can see - I have version A - WITHOUT Sissy bar. Those people with a Sissy bar need to have the Easy Bracket rear fender bolts/spools in position B.

Hope that helps a little.

Thanks Birdie. So if I were to buy the SE, can I just buy the new quick release brackets or should I just buy the standard bike and add my own stuff? I haven't seen the Storm yet. Do all the TBirds have the same riding position? Has anyone put a windshield on a Storm? Thanks for all the great info. I would have been a little miffed if I bought the bike and didn't know I couldn't take the bags off easily. With the help of this forum, I'll build my bike.

The SE comes with all the bells and whistles - piliion backrest, floorboards, screen, bags and some other stuff I think. You get all the gear at a reduced price cos its a package. You can take it all off and your back to the basic bike. All the birds ride the same with a bit of a change in the storm (handlebars) and its a 1700. If you go on the main Triumph site you can go on the accesories page and kit your ride out - but keep the wife out of the room while you click.

... but keep the wife out the room while you click...

And if she's REALLY clever - remember to clear the browers cache when you shut down! Otherwise she'll call up you're last saved creation... And that can cost you dearly - like cooking and cleaning for a while, not forgetting the 'ok' to new shoes and dresses!

Anyways - where were we... Oh yeah - as Mat said, if you KNOW you are wanting the footboards, backrest, windscreen and more, then it'll be cheaper to go for the SE, then get some Easy Brackets and take the Givis off you FZ.

Otherwise, be a little boy again and go into Create Your Triumph and build your dream.

Once again, as Mat said - the ergos of the Thunderbird are 99.9% the same.

Hi t84a

I have put the National Cycle deflector screen on my Storm :

I know picture is not very good, but haven't had chance to take more yet. The screen works well for wind protection on torso and head with the rake I have set on it. The screen is also quick release and I can take it off in a few seconds leaving two small brackets on the bars that don't look too bad. Loads of adjustment and the fitting was very easy. You can see what the screen looks like front on a little better on the standard Bird in the pic below
