Problem - Dont like leatther panniers, not totally keen on hard panniers, but I have some soft panniers that swing about a bit at speed. (recommended speed of 60mph -- pah).

Solution - strenghten them up.

Result - 1000% better.

In a narsisco/birdy sort of way - this is how I did it.

All you need is ---

A mate that has a great fabrication shop that needs some bits cnc milling for his Jeep Wrangler .
A cnc mill to make parts for said mate.
A cnc lathe (manual is ok but not as much fun)
A manual mill
A cordless drill
A neumatic rivet gun (manual will do)
A kettle (some tea,sugar etc)
A bit of time.
Plasters (band aid)

Make parts for mates Jeep and take them to his w/shop. Say that 'there is no charge cos your a mate' And then ask if he can cut you some ali sheet. Take cut sheet parts to own w/shop and mill in some keyhole slots and some other cutouts.

Turn on cnc lathe and turn up some new stainless bobbins to take backrest and new ali plates. Fit these to bike.

Check ali side plates fit to new bobbins.

Sandwich the soft pannier backing with inner and outer plates using a hand drill to line inner and outer plate rivet holes and then fasten together with rivets.

Try for fit.

View of Inner plate.

Problem solved. Solid and easily removed .

Looks like a NASA job to me, except they'd get a couple million for it. Very nice.

to improve - angle the slots against direction of travel instead of vertical.

With the amount of stuff that Mrs1600 takes - those fu3kers are going nowhere.

That's funny. I've got one of those too. I had to talk her out of taking toilet paper to Europe, and we were staying at Brown's Hotel in London and the Plaza Athenee in Paris. Not like it was a camping trip.
