Quick note to thank Jeff for his original post about the National windshield deflector screen. I just fitted one and have had a blast down the motorway. What a difference. It is going to make motorway work much easier and 140 - 150kph is now effortless. It doesn't look half bad either.
A couple of shots below.

I have been eying that screen. I'm looking for a screen that doesn't buffet. I'm OK with my helmet in the wind - in fact, I think that's about the only way to avoid buffeting, but I want the wind off my core.

Can you comment keeping those statements in mind?

My experience so far has been very positive. The screen adjusts and at the 'lowest' setting you get your helmet in the wind (I am around 6') but on the highest setting the wind is right off your head (although the lateral air flow felt a bit odd to me) I have it now set near the highest point and at 150kph its comfortable with no buffeting to speak of. For sure its much more relaxed than without on arms and neck at highway speeds. I will need earplugs though, it noticeably noisier (the price you pay I guess). Final thought, the screen comes off in seconds so its easy to decide what the days riding is going to be like.

Was looking for a place to post a test of the Chopped screen, but found that the issue of buffeting was brought up here so I will tell you what I have found in test on the America screens seems to hold true with the Thunderbird as well.

There is a window of "general peaceful air" when you have a screen. The fly screen does not generate buffeting, then again, it does not stop flies either, why? For a 5 foot 6 person the fly screen drops the air flow right in the face which causes little buffeting. The deflector, depending in the riders height will likely do the same, the question becomes where does the airflow hit no matter what you are using. There are two air streams, one over the top and one from under (mostly flowing over the gas tank and coming around the screen laterally from the sides. Where these air flows collide (and there is no way of getting around it) is what determines buffeting that bothers you. If the flow goes over the head, no buffeting, if it hits you at the level of the forehead, minimal buffeting, it it goes over the top and the flow from below collide at the back of your helmet...unbearable buffeting.

Finding the sweet spot for you is a matter of dialing it in. Sometimes lowers help too because they change the lower flow.

Trying to find a windless screen you have to go get a Goldwing that was designed in a wind tunnel. But you can find a happy medium with a little patience. Hope this helps you in the quest. I got the chopped to mellow out by moving it higher with the brackets 3/4 from top triple tree.

The National Quick release mount is the same for all the Switchblade screens and works great. I found the smoothest way to install, was painless for me.

Ian or Eddy, quick question.....

Did the brackets that mount to the shield (N21904) come with it?

I know the KIT-Q131 just has the parts that mount to the bike.

Asking because I got the same 2 from an auction on EBay and those brackets are missing. Contacted the seller about it and I'm waiting on the reply, want to make sure about the brackets.....

The screen comes with brackets pre-mounted, but the mounting kit comes separate. I sell the kit together but they do not come that way.

Ok, maybe I didn't ask the question the right way....

I received the KIT-Q131 that mounts to the bike, it matches the pic on National's site....

I also received the shield (N21904) that has the mounts already attached to the shield.

I'm talking about the 2 brackets (left & right) and hardware that go from the shield to the KIT-Q131. Do those come with the shield?

I think those parts just didn't get put into the box for shipping but wanted to check with the people here who have bought & installed them.

Thanks,
John

Hi John, you need 2 brackets like the one in the 2nd pic down (right back at the top of this thread). They attach to the screen and clip onto the kt Q131 that mounts on the fork legs. If those 2 brackets are missing you didn't get the full kit
cheers

Thanks Ian,

Your Storm looks great!!

Didn't mean to post all over your thread, just wanted to know if those 2 brackets came with the screen...

Thanks,
John
