Got me a bike jack. Can someone tell me the size of that piece of ply that needs to go on the jack. And .... does it just sit on the sump.
Had a go with a piece of half inch ply but it was bending a little so I guess three quarter will be fine , but what are the best dimensions for the timber. Any other jacking tips welcome. yeh yeh yeh ..... I can think of many smutty answers here so lets not be wasting valuable thread space here .

with the bike that high you could walk underneath it matt without bending

my timber is less than the distance between the pipes and about the length of the sump. when jacked its sitting only on the sump. my ply is about 12mm not sure why yours is bending unless its straddling. i have a flat top on the jack seems yours might be a frame type, from the pic it does seem more aft too. if its a frame then you will need a stronger ply. or straddle the frame with some of that steel you have lying about and put the thiner ply on that

6 1/2" x 14" piece of 3/4" plywood

Mine bends a little, but you can always screw on a cross piece under.

I've got pictures in the site album of this, also.

3/4 or 19 mm works great. the more plies the better, maybe you can find some Baltic Birch at a local cabinet shop. BTW nice title

I cut an asymmetrical piece, that shares the load over the crankcase, cat and exhaust. I did plan on including packing pieces to accommodate the variable heights but it seems there's only a couple of mm difference. Not near bike at the mo, if you want pics can post later

I'd like to see the picture, but I don't understand why you would both
- put big weight on the exhaust headers and the cat box
- and put up with milimeters of height diffs and a off centerline lift.

The cat is one thing, but the headers coulld be a real problem.

Maybe not, but why risk it? The right sized board fits so well.

My plan is...wait until Mat has got it sorted and found the safety stop then go and knock on his door with the promise of beer and the pleasure of my company and use his. He is my very bestest mate after all (I'm sure he's happy about that).
